Babcock design and build bridges. A few years ago these office people you talk of priced a job in the Highlands between Beauly and Dounreay using Google maps without taking those sticky out bits of ground into consideration. I'd want a mag to walk over one of theirs firstIts a common thing this mate. If people don't personally understand or relate to a job, especially an office based one, they assume the people in the office know nowt and are basically just 'sitting at a desk'. Its just easier for most people to do this rather try and learn whats actually being done.
The reality is, the design of this bridge will have been done by people with massive experience in similar and much larger projects. All of these people will have been educated to a very high level and the calculations they have done will have been checked multiple times at multiple stages by multiples of people and all that before the contractors even arrived on site a few years back.
I know, which is why I posted it.
Just remember, without that design you don't have anything to construct and are out of a job![]()
To be fair, that iron curtain they hung also fell down.My mate said the same. Engineer for 10 years in Hungary, following fall of Soviet Union and knows his way about a bridge/ water crossing.
People talk some shite !!!Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? It almost feels like we are being made the guinea pigs to test its strength. A mate of mine was on a run down the river, he worked on the Megyeri Bridge whilst living out in Budapest and said he had some real worries about the standard of work on our new footbridge. He said the abutments (end supports for transferring loads) didn’t look sufficient for the loads it would need to transfer on a matchday.
That exact night bought a bag of chips from the Chinese takeaway and he said if you're thin king of crossing a bridge in China tonight.dont.I watched a video of a bridge falling down in China a few years ago it was terrible. The people who fell off the bridge seemed much thinner as well so it makes you think about next season.
No. It is computer modelled with worst case loadings applied and a quite high factor of safety addedPardon my ignorance, but dont they load test bridges?
Yeah that’s bound to happen as well. I’ve heard that it’ll be ready a month before the opening date but they have set a date a month later because they fancy the bridge just being finished but just sitting there unused so they can feel a sense of power over the residents of the city. Apparently after the riots last year they want to show people who really runs the place and crush the spirit of the people. Wouldn’t surprise me if when it’s finished they blow it up in a show of force to break our spirits and forget about any civil disobedienceWouldn’t be surprised to see it open for west ham game, even if its just for the day, then reopens for women world cup the following week. Can imagine theres pressure from the council leaders etc to have it open.
I’ve laughed but I’m going to be one of themTesting on the rugby fans first because their lives mean less than us football fans
I bet there’s loads of complaints about it taking a while for people to funnel onto the bridge post match.Bet I walk out of the game at the end and still set off on my usual way back towards town

People at my school would genuinely say something similar back in Peterlee about the annual fairground at the carnival. They would say that the funfair would open on a Thursday night for disabled people to test the rides safety as they wouldn’t care about getting the disabled injured. Complete bollocks of course. My friend was disabled so it always felt shit people saying it.Testing on the rugby fans first because their lives mean less than us football fans
Canny sad how much I’m looking forward to it opening like.It will take ages like, probs better off leaving 10 mins before the end![]()
No plans to test it before hand, just going full on Lemmings v West Ham. If you see empty seats you know what’s happened.Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? Not in this case as it's already been carried out.No. It is computer modelled with worst case loadings applied and a quite high factor of safety added
Be fine mate they are only opening the bridge during back shifts at Nissan, it’ll be quietI bet there’s loads of complaints about it taking a while for people to funnel onto the bridge post match.
