Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

surely should be pushing out all the stops to get it ready for Hammers game. Why wait for the rugby ?
Im sure the relevant stakeholders are pushing for that and the contractor will be trying to manage expectation accordingly. They aint going to promise it for the west ham game now, best thing to do is say “will do our best, uphill task, will be tough etc” and they will be a hero if they deliver

Pie in the sky I know, but it would be even immensererererer if it was a glass pathway.
What a good idea. Even if it was just the odd panel. 👍

I would have thought there would be a set date for completion. There must be a financial penalty clause in place, for not completing on time. Saying that our penalty record last season wasn’t that great!!!!!!

Interested to know who the stakeholders are?
Is the bridge purely a council project, with some central funding?

Designed by Thomas Paine of all people, makes me a bit sad it's not still around.

The Tom Paine - would get my vote.

"In 1819, English agrarian radical journalist , who in 1793 had published a hostile continuation of Francis Oldys (George Chalmer)'s The Life of Thomas Paine, dug up his bones and transported them back to England with the intention to give Paine a heroic reburial on his native soil, but this never came to pass. The bones were still among Cobbett's effects when he died over fifteen years later but were later lost. There is no confirmed story about what happened to them after that, although various people have claimed throughout the years to own parts of Paine's remains, such as his skull and right hand"

It wasn't designed by Tom Paine but he had a very similar concept at about the same time. He tried to patent his design & had a demonstration model at Paddington, London. The Rotherham Iron Foundry who made the castings took them back & some might have been used in our bridge. Our "designers" included the chief promoter Rowland Burdon & the Rotherham Iron Foundry among others.

Sunderland has massive scope to be a buzzing vibrant city, it’ll take time but it’s actually happening! Not just plans and council meetings. For the 1st time ever shit is being done to improve it
Shame about the stabbings, like. Made the national news

Just need to put a few neet shifts on man!

Yes it is. Shame it’s happened here and happening every city in the country far too regularly. Not sure what that has to do with a post I made September last year about it having a chance of being better like.
It’s been a powder keg down roker av for awhile now. I’m not just gonna blame it on immigrants either but mixing immigrants in an area that is already pretty impoverished your gonna get trouble eventually.

I don't think living in HMOs helps. They can be very stressful environments if not very well managed.

Purely coincidentally, our own serial killer lived on that street.
