Wider but shorter, IIRC.I thought the Wearmouth was bigger than the Tyne? It has more lanes I know that.

Let’s just knock shit down. The Tyne bridge construction started two years earlier, GOM! In 1925.
Edit: Wearmouth bridge is grade 2 listed anyway. I guess we'll have to build one alongsde it!
See below from this very threadI have heard the queen Alex before as it really shortens it,but never the wearmouth
Makes sense if you're coming from The Burton House. It'll be interesting to see how many choose Wearmouth after the match.
Aye but don't forget the full length of the Wearmouth Bridge is in Sunderland whereas only half the length of the Tyne Bridge is in Newcastle.Wider but shorter, IIRC.
Very good!Aye but don't forget the full length of the Wearmouth Bridge is in Sunderland whereas only half the length of the Tyne Bridge is in Newcastle.
So on that basis our bridge is wider and longer than theirs![]()
Do some research mate.It was actually built before the Tyne Bridge to prove the design worked. Then the Tyne Bridge itself was a trial for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. All basically the same bridge in increasing size.
Well ive always called it the town bridge...that could be just me likeI have heard the queen Alex before as it really shortens it,but never the wearmouth
Perhaps somebody could put a freedom of information request into the council ( journos do it all the time)to see what the suggestion were !I see no logical reason why the council couldn't post the list of suggestions on their website! The Council picked the name. Gave the public three to pick from. Aye their three choices which included the one they wanted and one they said had the most votes. Aye OK Council.
Bbc already did it. One of the suggestions was Bridgey PhillipsonPerhaps somebody could put a freedom of information request into the council ( journos do it all the time)to see what the suggestion were !I see no logical reason why the council couldn't post the list of suggestions on their website!
Well yeah but there's a cost to that and minimal benefit really. The name isn't going to change and I doubt it will be very revealing. Lots of stupid suggestions and no doubt some inappropriate. The name is fine, in keeping with the Keel theme that is a well thought-out concept and will come to be appreciated IMO. For me the 'Crossing' part is a bit laboured but if they'd called it Keel Bridge instead it sounds too much like Gillbridge which was the name of the old police station so wouldn't have worked so well.Perhaps somebody could put a freedom of information request into the council ( journos do it all the time)to see what the suggestion were !I see no logical reason why the council couldn't post the list of suggestions on their website!
so where the top three in terms of numbers the three on the final list or did a council panel choose which ones to put to the final vote!I know there has to be some sort of editorial overview of the suggestions to avoid a mc boatface scenario ........but if the council have formulated the list from what they think is best well thats not really fair is it?Bbc already did it. Also a big problem on North Bridge Street at the Wheatsheaf, surprised nobody has been badly hurt thereIt’s a problem that exists at the bottom of St Mary’s Way anyway crossing over to St Mary’s Church.
At least that will be reduced.
It doesn't really have to be 'fair', though. It's not an election. The process involved a curated shortlist (which is the right approach to avoid bad outcomes) and a public vote element. It's a tried and tested approach which works, ultimately.so where the top three in terms of numbers the three on the final list or did a council panel choose which ones to put to the final vote!I know there has to be some sort of editorial overview of the suggestions to avoid a mc boatface scenario ........but if the council have formulated the list from what they think is best well thats not really fair is it?
May i disagree with you soprendo ?When it comes to the council i like transparency and there is nowt wrong with showing their workings out....Well yeah but there's a cost to that and minimal benefit really. But it's one of those topics where there are many opinions but needs a bit of management by the local authority to get a good result. I think they've done right here....as they have on most issues recently. Again IMO, obviously.

Nowt wrong with being curated mate as long as you show your workings out!..then the public can make a fair assessment of the councils performance as after all they work for them! When you do stuff behind closed doors and tight lips over something as simple as the naming of a bridge you have to wonder how they deal with the important stuff? It doesn't really have to be 'fair', though. The council have been transparent with the process. Public suggestions then chosen panel then vote. Keel crossing is good makes sense and fits with the overall regeneration workMay i disagree with you soprendo ?When it comes to the council i like transparency and there is nowt wrong with showing their workings out....
it was a public vote made out of choices they made and tbh there is nowt wrong with the name chosen but i would like the opportunity to see what the public suggestions were there is nowt wrong with them saying here is the list of the suggestions received from the public and the numbers for each and a chosen panel of experts have short listed a selection to put to the public vote....now they did not do that so i would guess that there was a sensible popular option that was overlooked by the councils panel for their own reasons well thats not really on is it.......
In the end its a decent choice and it doesn't really matter in the end but as i said earlier the council should be as transparent as they can be
