Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Maybe so, but you lose some credibility in the process. What is the point in posting articles from outside of Sunderland, from France and America etc...that people will know about from the main news channels..? It's pointless and dilutes the page..

The page has enough followers now where it could be part of Sunderlands resurgence

What is causing this is that there are other SGM Facebook pages, including a "World" page and a "North East page".

However, they need followers, and it is easy to just share them to the main page and they grow likewise, but clearly as judged by reactions on this thread it confuses people. although I'm a bit surprised, I didn't see why stories from Tyneside, County Durham etc would be met with disdain.

I guess the idea is SGM, as the "G" suggests is intended to cover a broader scope, promoting Sunderland overseas in the process and one very important objective for me, the rest of the region, but I appreciate the identity and expectations of the main page is all about Sunderland and nearby areas so it gets confusing.

But the thing is, if there is national news that is of significance to let people know, I don't see why it's a problem providing it's relevant. It doesn't have to be absolutist.

Aye, he was like. Shame really cos Facebook is a huge tool to promote Sunderland. We need more of them.

You look at a page like Future Sunderland which is class, but because it doesn’t post controversial subjects, race bait, missing dogs etc it doesn’t have the same reach as the likes of SGM & SunderlandNow.
Future Sunderland is quality best one out the lot

You don't get followers / hits by posting good news, no-one cares when it comes to social media.

It's why most of it is clickbait articles ie. 'Favourite Shop Closing, Locals ANGRY' type stuff and it's a shop no-one goes in or cares about. Yet all the weirdos will reply with Covid, council blah blah.

I wonder how many followers the breaking news about a cash machine in gateshead not working gained 😄

Sadly, you’re right. It’s amazing how many positive posts on pages like the Echo get hardly any interaction.

Then a post about an unused building being turned into student accommodation or someones McDonald's order missing their chips… hundreds of comment 😃

if they ever look to build the low level bridge it would make better sense positioned near to the university. The site of the old ferry landing.
It would connect the city centre to a more direct route to roker. It would be used by university students. It seems crazy they’ve got plans for two footbridges next to each other? The site at st. Peter’s would be infinitely better place for the 2nd bridge

That'd be the third or forth new bridge ;)
