Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Especially with the dawdlers trudging along 4 abreast chatting away to each other not giving a flying fuck about faster walking people behind them wanting to be past.

I think that they will continue with that one mind.
Not everyone will use that footbridge to go back into the town.
I certainly won't - as it's not in the direction I go after the match. 🤷‍♂️
Id be amazed if that continues. There's a wide footpath and they can save £

it really will be a game changer for home games and concerts at the SoL. the pubs and restaurants in the town centre must be over the moon

hopefully we can get more stuff at the SoL like womens games, the rugby, internationals, exhibitions, things like the durham county cup and reserve games etc..

be class if they had an all day music festival on at the SoL with big bands on all day, people could just mooch over the town for a few pints, back and forth

it'll also help with match day car traffic too, you'd think, as they won't have to put them lane closures on any more

Yes hopefully when the new bridge is installed the SOL & Sheepfolds will become part of the city centre and link up with events.

The football club should be one of our biggest assets and if it hadn't been such a basket case over recent years we could have been looking to extend the SOL had we been established in the Premier League. Which in turn would have made it easier to attract big events.

But the club is where it is & I'll have to remain frustrated over it.

maybe at first they'll keep it on, but i reckon foot traffic post-match on the wearmouth bridge will reduce by 70-80% when the new bridge is open, and they'll eventually get rid of the lane closures

I can’t see why they’d need to keep lane closures in place when there is already two wide paths on either side of the road across the Wearmouth Bridge. I reckon at least 60-70% of those heading south over the bridge post match turn right when they get over the south side, so you’d expect all of them would just use the new bridge. A much smaller amount of people tend to head straight on past the church or left towards Sunniside and the East End.

why not? we have an international rugby world cup game coming up in 2025, it'll be great for the city.

obviously not as big as mens rugby or womens football, but its better than having nothing on at all, and will bring 1000s of people into the city who probably would never have come
Rugbys shite
Women’s footballs shite

But if people want to watch them, fine.

But not at the expense of the SAFC game being moved from its proper slot. The ground is SAFCs.

Neither should be having SAFC home games moved around to accommodate them (as happened last season for the women’s football and as will happen in 25/26 for the rugby)

What about SAFC home games where we vacate the Black Cats Bar to that shower up the road and allow them to royally take the piss?

Agree with that mind, we shouldn't be moving Saturday 3pm games for anything. There's hardly any of them to start with this season

I'd love to know the economic effect on the town of moving a Saturday game to a Sunday. The amount getting spent pre and post match must be less than 50%

People would still go out on Saturday afternoon but it must be a net loss over the whole weekend.

I think it depends on whereabouts in the ground you are. It might be quicker to take a slightly longer route and head over Wearmouth avoiding the crowds. Or even if not quicker people might want to avoid crowds. The bulk will definitely use the new one though.

The council have submitted plans to build a bridge on the corner of the South West of the Stadium over the cobbled path with a subway so it will be a straight walk down past stables and over new footbridge.
