I call it The Northern Spire. I thought it was crap at first but quickly warmed to it.
As a city we're obsessed with the past and I think it holds us back, so having a name with no link to history works for me.
End of the day it's just a name, and I don't care too much one way or the other. I was up in arms about The Stadium of Light but does it matter in the scheme of things?
I think these crap decisions hinder us slightly.
Calling it the Joseph Swan Bridge would have highlighted how important our city is and has been, it would have made every passing person for the next 100 years go 'who?' and whip Thier phone out and find out that such a bloke was born in Pallion. It would have made every kid born in Sunderland realise that the can change the world. It would have been iconic

I don't think there's anything wrong with recognising the past. I wish we had a shipbuilding museum. I love the dray and horse sculpture at keel square. 'keel' square
