Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? It almost feels like we are being made the guinea pigs to test its strength. A mate of mine was on a run down the river, he worked on the Megyeri Bridge whilst living out in Budapest and said he had some real worries about the standard of work on our new footbridge. He said the abutments (end supports for transferring loads) didn’t look sufficient for the loads it would need to transfer on a matchday.

Yeah i'm pretty sure the people making the bridge won't have considered match day footfall and probably won't be bothered if it falls apart the first time people walk on it, not like it would have any adverse effects on the success of the company

You can't compare a road bridge designed to take nose to tail heavy goods vehicles with a footbridge. Although I suppose there will be a few folk turning up slightly more rotund after their all-inclusive fortnight in Turkey.
 
They aren't actually going to open it it's just a monument. Then Thompson's are going to demolish it when we get relegated.
There are no standards in the UK to follow which means the bridge can be designed and built for the load it is expecting to carry.

Edit - it'll be designed to take about 500kg per m^2 of surface

Surely that doesn’t bode well? What if they built it whilst anticipating lower championship crowds? Obesity rates also climbing in recent years.
