You may be correct. He has said a lot about wanting to get back into Management and, let's be honest, he is not going to get a job offer at a club bigger than SAFC, not until he has achieved something in recent times.
My comment was responding to a post where they had used the money portion then ignored the other. If going to take a statement as being factual can't ignore the aspects that don't fit whatever opinions you may have as an individual.
IMO you appointed a better option anyway. Never go back. It is never the same!!

I was gutted when the Keane deal fell through, but, and this genuinely isn’t sour grapes, I’m glad we have Neil instead. He wants to be here, he seems straightforward and genuine, and he has decent credentials.

Keane didn’t want it enough, so it’s no loss.

It could mean anything from length of contract to how much the transfer kitty would be. I seen the reports about the 50k a week and I think even Keane is realistic enough to know that kind of money doesn't exist at this level for a coach/manager.

End of the day he's got his reasons for turning it down and we move on, but the club doesn't seem to know its arse from its elbow atm, I suspect he just thought it was too big a task to take us up this season or maybe even next.

I cannot say for definite, but I cannot imagine Keane to be motivated, solely by money (he's surely more than well off, from his time in the game, and also from his tv work)

I suspect Keane would've wanted free reign, to choose and bring in his own choice of players, at SAFC. (within reason)
He'd also likely want assurances, of decent money being made available to buy the players he feels would benefit SAFC.

Not a hope in hell, of either of those conditions being met, especially with us now following a transfer blueprint, to bring in and develop the skills & talents of younger players, within the club.

His past history barring his stint with Sunderland is not really good reading.

I read the part about money as meaning not having enough to compete, surprising if Keane has said that about his own wage given he’s always complained about others caring too much how they’re being paid.

As I said at the time, sound to me like he was playing power games not only with SAFC but more with ITV and SKY as leverage for more money from them. The fit was pay me more or I can always go back to management?

Dodged a bullet and I was relieved when he didn't take the job. He would have been gone by April anyway. Alex Neil is a much better fit at this point in time.

Can't see Keane ever coming back into management, he's created a niche for himself as the angry pundit and it's easy money for him.

Tbf I never wanted him and couldn’t get my head round the clamour to get him back. Whether AN is the answer time will tell but there was certainly no stand out candidate who was available.

I did want him, for no logical reason other than he would definitely have generated a feel good factor amongst the fans (as was demonstrated on here) I can’t slag him off because unlike others I’m not privy to what really happened during meetings with the club, safe to say I think Keane has burnt his bridges here, his mischievous persona as a pundit will have to feed and clothe him for the foreseeable ( poor bugger).

Even after his admission that he’s not really arsed about managing, there’s still plenty on here licking his hoop, blaming the club, journalists etc. Glad he didn’t get it, would’ve been a disaster.
