Absolutely nothing to do with being our rivals but this is embarrassing and shameful. How can they not see how pathetic they look over this?
I think it’s worse than that. This is about our elected officials being craven, pandering bellends who are so consumed by populism that they’ll waste energy on trivialities like this in an attempt to distract the people from how little they actually achieve on their behalf. Of course the fans talking about mental anguish are utter dickheads but successive MPs selling out their principles to chase a cheap popularity bump is utterly embarrassing.

Its crazy like, the Pl just needed to say no weeks and weeks ago if they didn't want to pass it, like I genuinely don't understand why they haven't made any sort of decision after 4 months. Looks like they want to reject it but have no legal reason so are just delaying and delaying hoping the Saudis get sick and pull out.

I think the issue is deeper than that. Its only my suspicions but I think the test would pass the Saudis.
But the PL dont want them to pass it because of the piracy issue.

Its a unique case. If they allow the Saudis to take over, then the Saudis and Newcastle United will get TV revenue money from the likes of BeIn. But at the same time, the Saudis won't let BeIn broadcast there and have tried to stop legal challenges. In the eyes of the PL they cant have it both ways.

Lots of mags are suggesting Saudi should get its own TV rights, but that would be breach of a longstanding agreement with BeIn and seta a precedent which lowers the value of TV rights. If the Saudi government can get a bespoke deal, why shouldnt other nations? All they have to do is ban the official broadcast partner and buy a club.

So the PL wants this resolved in a way that protects its Golden Egg. But knows if they fail the new owners there will be an expensive appeal and more delay.

Grew up in Washington and then it was majority NUFC, but not by that big a margin
I live in Washington and quite a few lads i know changed the colours in the keegoon years. I could never understand how anyone could change allegiance to your local rival if ever

Read last week or the week before that the Saudi ban on BeIn started the process back in 2018 after BeIn was found to be ripping people off over Euro 2016. People were subscribing to BeIn but then being charged more for the Euros. Suppose a bit like BT sport with their exclusive champions league coverage then putting the final as pay per view. Think there were 4 other countries in the MENA region who have also sacked off beIn for the same reason.
I dunno how it works in terms of a bespoke package, but it's up to an individual country whether or not they want to receive a channel from another. If they decide, like others have, to opt out of the bein MENA monopoly on tv rights, then it creates a gap in the market.
Egypt the most populated county in that region and Saudi the richest and most powerful, the premier league probably won't want to ignore them as potential customers. Especially as one of the best players in the league is Egyptian and has just won the league, I'd expect there's huge interest in Egypt right now.
Whether they come up with an emergency short team deal who knows?

Why would they come up with an "emergency short term deal" for anyone, when Bein already own the rights?

Straw clutching at its very finest.

As I explained, because it's the premier league's biggest customers in the MENA region and they're part of four countries who have sacked off beIn and the rights aren't up for renewal for two more years.

Funny how the resident Mags are slowly dying off
Not a great deal for us to talk about at the minute to be fare.
No news on the take over, just the same stuff being regurgitated by the press.
The clubs in limbo waiting for a yes or a no so nothing happening to talk about there.

Could that not be a positive for the deal to go through? That the WTO report cannot be used if it is in appeal stage? I hope it doesn't. Strange how the Saudis initially claimed victory with the WTO report, and now want to appeal.
They claimed victory because the WTO didn't find them guilty of the piracy and found they were justified to block BEIN access to the legal system. The WTO ruled against them on one of the complaints which was that the Saudis had failed to provide adequate protection.
I assume they are appealing that one point so they get a clean sweep.
I think the above is right or at least my understanding of it anyway.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.
