Honset question, are they getting taken over or not ?
Honestly, I think Ashley is now ready to sell so even if the Saudi takeover hits the rocks he won't own Newcastle for much longer. Mind, journalists are saying that if the PL fail them on the O&D test the Saudis will appeal, so it might rumble on for a while longer still.

You say you enjoyed it more, but what were you enjoying?
Few goals to enjoy, more goals against to endure, fewer chances to get excited about, more chances against us to worry about, less time on the ball to see our players actually play, with the goal keeper making more passes than anyone else?
I was enjoying better overall football with players that are actually allowed to play football.

How would anyone on here know

No one would 100%, I ask becasuse I don't frequent the Mag thread to partake in all the bullshit. I'll take The Fishes reply as gospel and presume it's still on for now.

Personally believe them getting taken over and going on to big things would drag ourselves and Boro up over time. If top players wanted to play for the Mags the region would be back on the football map, kind of like the boom years during Keegan / Reid.

That said I'm a glass half full person most the time, nee point getting stressed over shit you can't control nor change, enough shit thrown at you in general without making footy another life depressive if you can

How can you state it was better football when it's proven we weren't creating chances, scoring goals, or keeping the ball.
It's proven we were under the kosh, giving up chances, conceding goals and rarely seeing the ball.

So, again, what in the fuck were you enjoying?

To be honest Rafa had Rondon and Perez playing up front. Good functional players who can retain the ball further up the pitch. Not exciting players but functional, effective and allow you to retain possession and create some chances. Bruce hasn't had that but he has allowed Almiron and ASM some freedom and I can certainly see why supporters would rather watch them running with the ball and committing players than Rafa's functional stuff.

I’m in favour of this notion that fan numbers warrants ‘success’ would see us a permanent fixture in the top flight, Bournemouth, Burnley, Palace and Norwich can step aside for us, Leeds, Forest and Wednesday ....
in 2017/18 they made 18.6m profit. In addition Ashley took 33m of the 144m interest free loan back. Would they rather than 144m was at 5%, so they are paying 7.2m in interest? Even if he didn't take back the 33m what would they do with 51.6m? Would that really transform the team from aiming for survival to challenging for top 6?
1. A football club that doesn't try to better itself on the pitch and off it, is no longer a sporting institution, it's just a business. I don't follow a football club to celebrate balance sheets. We weren't winning things, but we were at least trying to. The decade prior to Ashley we were consistently finishing in the European spots, and getting to quarter finals or further in the domestic cups for 6/10 seasons.
The two most recent Sky deals, where you get close to 100m for finishing bottom, made Newcastles large crowds irrelevant. Without a sugar daddy you can't distinguish yourself from the pack. Saying you were consistently finishing in the European spots is as relevant as us saying we once won the league three times in four seasons. Football has moved on.

Aye, which is fine for the games where they've actually been able to do that, but honestly, that's only really been the last 6 or 7 games. Prior to that we weren't getting them on the ball much at all, certainly not in areas where they can do any damage. So I'm fine with someone saying they've enjoyed the football recently, I have myself, but that's forgetting the f***ing awful shit we saw before.

Don't disagree about the crowd size thing. But you won the league three times in four seasons 128 years ago. We were relegated from the Premier League at the end of Ashley's 2nd season. There's a big difference, 126 years of difference. From Rotterdam to Rotheram in 2 seasons. That's bad ownership, just like Arsenal to Accrington Stanley is bad ownership..

No. I absolutely cannot understand enjoying terrible, terrible football over better football. I enjoy goals, chances, passing play and if they're not on show, I want to see a plan. You got none of that from Bruce until very recently, and not even in every game now.

There must be some sort of plan because we're well free from relegation.
Unless you think most other clubs don;t have a plan, either.

Let's make this to the point.
Rafa's football was mind numbing and he only started to rally when the sheet hit that fan in which he panic loaned and got lucky.
Bruce has had to sort out the robotic style of Benitez and the wrath of fans, to get to this stage. I'd say he deserves a medal....but then again, that's my opinion.

There's the start of a plan. Gayle, Joelinton, Almiron and ASM as a mobile attacking unit. That plan has only formed in the past 5-6 games. What about the previous 25+? But yeah we're benefiting from other teams being poor. Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham... you wouldn't have picked them out as relegation threatened sides before the season started, yet here we are.

Benitez' football was pragmatic but effective and he loosened the shackles a bit after survival seemed secure.
Bruce has done ok, but you're painting a very rosy picture of this season. For the majority we've been utter shit and incredibly lucky.
