Really pissing me off that we have the best young kid who has come through the ranks at the club for fuck knows how long getting turned into a bit of a boo boy by some supporters.

What is it with the modern day football fan that a players cant have a bad or a quiet couple of games without people 'Wanting rid' or 'Not good enough'

Is it to much to ask for a bit patience when needed for a talented young footballer instead of hounding the lad at every little error he makes which I feel is starting to happen now

Maybe the term boo boy is a bit strong at this moment but hopefully you get my drift

It is the nature of the game, with all the money and hype it attracts,

Not quite a boo boy, though he certainly is an internet one.
Fortunately, this doesn't happen at games.

I do wonder what people would have said on here about the likes of Russell,Ord and Smith - none of whom were fit to lace Jordan's boots.

While I agree, perhaps if people didn't big him up so much others woudln't feel the need to take him down a peg.

the mistake people make is saying things like ' I would sell henderson for £20m'......basically they are saying they would never see him before he is a long way off that

would rather have henderson in the team the elmo or steed that's for sure

Steed every time for me like.

Tackles more, holds the ball more, passes into dangerous areas more and gives the impression he's trying harder too. Only down side is he's 10 years older.

Henderson has lots of potential but on recent form he should be rested for a few games.

Spot on mate. He's a young lad still learning the game, and if anything, should be recieving encouragement, not ridicule!

The more local lads representing SAFC, the better!

I have seen good things from Henderson, but, like the curate's egg, he is only good in parts. In recent weeks his passing for the most part has been poor, his decision making has been poor, goals - what goals? I don't think he has done what he is said to be able to do (overhype) since at least his England appearance. Would I advocate taking a few million for him at this time - yes!

What irritates me most about it is the general ignorance people are happy to wallow in regarding Henderson, and anyone else really. People are more than happy to spend hours on here preaching to about you what he "seemed" to do and "seemed" not to do, but can't be arsed to take 2 minutes to check some simple match statistics. When any of us watch Sunderland, we are not impartial or detached from it and in a highly emotional state our judgement is the first thing to go. After Chelsea I was told repeatedly, and for a good few days, that Henderson couldn't keep the ball. It took me all of about a minute to discover he completed over 80% of his passes that night.

Answer me this - if people show such little respect for their own opinion that they can't be arsed to support it or protect it, then why should I respect it?

Would be interesting to know how many JH threads we have had in the last three weeks.....

Can you think of another player who has/is given so mush differing attention? Why? because he's not quite the goalkeeper some would have led us to believe. As I already said, it's not worth the abuse and they are never wrong.

The trouble with Henderson is the fact he has been overplayed, never misses a game. Naturally he will have the odd bad game where fans are picking up on. Knowing we are rich with midfielders, they're thinking someone else should be playing. Thats what footy is all about, we're all managers

That doesn't really mean much to be honest, not keeping the ball can also mean losing possession by other means.

A defender could have a 90% passing success rate but if he gets caught in possession at the edge of the box and it leads to a goal in a 1-0 defeat, those stats would be meaningless.

Saying that theres only actually 1 stat that counts anyway.

If people say something like "he couldn't pass a ball. Kept giving it away all night", then pass success percentage is certainly a pertinent statistic.

But, if they think he kept on being caught in possession, then nothing to stop them pulling up some numbers about how often he was tackled on the night, is there?

I love a good debate on here, and the more varied the opinions the better as far as I am concerned. But I don't think it is too much to ask that people at least try and have something to back their opinion up. Certainly makes for a better and more stimulating discussion, anyway.

I like JH, and would like him to stay. Others prefer Barton. If we all agreed there wouldn't be anything to argue and discuss. At least we can all think that the people who disagree are some kind of numbskull.

Those are mutually exclusive, are they?

Today, Barton is a much much better footballer, but I'd rather have Henderson at out club.

Even when you give a good account of reasons for an opinion you still get slated anyway.
Has Henderson got loads of potential, I think he has, does he warrant a start everygame in his current position, probably yes due to injuries.

However I think he is lost as a central midfielder, he doesn't have alot in his locker in the last third or is a player who can break down opposition attacks.

He can run for 90 minutes though, well plus stoppage time.

I think he CAN do that, he just doesn't do it often enough. He isn't combative often enough. There have been several games this season in which he has made more tackles and inteceptions than Cattermole. But I think getting the right partner for him is the key. He needs a degree of freedom in the centre of midfield to press the ball high up the field.

Well if he works on it then we will have a player we cannot possibly keep.

The thing with a lot of fans is that at 20 they expect him to be the finished article. The media locally and on Sky have hyped him up beyond belief to the point where fans believe what they hear and read and when the lad cannot maintain they slag him off.

I have to admit that not only in his recent slump in form, but beforehand I have thought the lad cannot tackle for toffee and cannot remember a single time he has actually won a challenge/tackle. That said though, the thought of him developing further as a Sunderland play excites me as it should every Sunderland fan.

Modern fans are in the most part cretins with short memory and attention spans. If their point of view has not been fed to them by national media they struggle!!!

Bruce Out!!
