Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

I personally think it comes down to, neither Sunderland or Henderson think him coming back and being a squad player who rotates in and out and off the bench works.

The lad has started for top teams his whole career, but I genuinely think with our midfield options there is no way he’s a guaranteed starter.

At this stage of his career I would certainly put Enzo and Diarra ahead of him and that leaves him competing with Neil, Rigg and Sadiki currently for 1 other position.

I do think we bring in another midfielder who is primarily a CDM to compete with Neil and Sadiki for that role, but I don’t think it will be Hendo.

The signing of Henderson makes perfect sense to me, however I haven't overseen a club from league one to the Premier League so I'll trust those making the decisions
That sums it up perfectly mate, all these footy manager stars on here think they know better than the people who've actually done it in real life.

I'm saying Henderson has the respect of opposition players because of what he has achieved. This is clearly true.

He is widely respected among players, supporters and media. I'm not sure why this fact upsets you so much.

He is one of our own. Of course we should big him up.

He's not f#cking Ronaldo or Messi man! 😆 the opposition will not give a shit about him.

About time you took his poster down off your bedroom wall fella.

Trust them generally but think personalities are getting in the way of an obvious move here
My point is mate we know very little of the actual facts, he might not fit the system we are going to play, as mentioned below Le Bris might not want him, he might be to vocal on the pitch and we want a different player doing that, he might not even want to come, we just don't know the details so let's trust the people who do

Do people really think a lad who just left a team playing European football as their captain would be willing to be a backup player for a team fighting relegation?

Or its just a politics/personality issue due to speakers

And laughable that henderson is only involved with england to do media

I doubt it's about personalities at all, unless Henderson want's to be involved in boardroom meetings and such. Our new DoF may think Henderson isn't up to it, as our recent activity shows, its not just Speakman making big decisions at the club anymore.

When England come up against any decent side, Henderson will rarely be used.

Seems a natural fit to me, would be an important influence around a young side.

Not saying it will happen, but I hope it does.
I think O’9 is our infectious older influence in and around the squad. I think that any players now brought in over the age of 25 have to have both the experience and also be almost guaranteed starters. Such as Reinildo. I don’t think Henderson will be close to a guaranteed starter ahead of the lads we have already signed.

He wouldn’t be back up, he’d be straight in the team. Saying that, reading a few pages of this thread and people seem to think the same 3 players are gonna be playing centre mid every game… we need a squad.

There's no way we've spent as much money as we have on our three CM signings this window if we intend to let a 35 year old Jordan Henderson waltz into the starting XI ahead of one of them. If he was to come he would be one of those "squad" players you've mentioned, and I sincerely doubt he'd be up for that.

Maybe RLB doesn’t think he fits his system? Maybe KLD / Speakman / Ghisolfi think his demands aren’t acceptable

Maybe he just isn’t good enough for the prem anymore in the eyes of the professionals

JH does not walk straight into our midfield

In fact he might walk whilst in it but that’s about it

We can get him in Jan to cover when half the midfield nash off to the AFCON.

If he wants to get in the world cup squad he'd want to be starting the majority of games. Not sure he'd get that guarantee here.
Perhaps his style of play doesn't suit how we're going to be set up next season.

Only reason why we wouldn’t be interested in signing him is no potential profit when the inevitable sales happen next summer to appease psr.
He’d go straight in the starting 11 if he signed though.
