Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

He doesn't do that though. He's never really done that. His phsyicality has always been his main way of playing to his best level. It's hardly a surprise he played for Liverpool and was a key player for Klopp in that era where they pressed like crazy. You could use him as the deepest midfielder in that team because as a unit they'd all be flying about up the pitch trying to press the other team into a mistake with a really high defensive line, even then Klopp still went to Fabinho as the sitter and moved Henderson higher up the pitch when he could. At 35 he's not suddenly going to be able change his game that drastically to now become composed enough not to want to press. Similarish to when we signed Leadbitter (obviously Henderson's miles better, not comparing their ability) and he was supposed to sit, he couldn't do it. Just wasn't his game.

We'd be far better off with a mobile ball winner, someone in the mould of Joao Palhinha than we would be Henderson. Our midfield already lacks physicality so if you take Bellingham out and put in a 35 year old who's legs started going a few years ago then it's not gonna be great. People just keep blindly screaming EXPERIENCE for whatever reason like it makes it an amazing signing. Quite literally thousands of players we could sign with experience and a decent chunk will be a better fit.
Reminds me a bit of the clamour on here in January 2023 to bring M'Vila back for 'experience' and he was absolutely rubbish for West Brom when they signed him.

He wasnt the deepest player in the very best Klopp Liverpool side. Fabinho was.
Henderson was ahead of him.

People need to get over this "Henderson got paid money to play in Saudi Arabia". Are you gonna check if all your plastic products contain any derivatives of Saudi oil? Are you gonna check if your flight flying to Alicante contains any imported Saudi oil? The UAE is not much different. Are people gonna refuse to sit next to someone who's been on holiday to Dubai next?

What a load of woke wetwipes.
Again you are (perhaps deliberately) missing the point.

None of the above examples will be role models for our youngsters.
If the Saudi’s didn’t own the mags, there would be zero (absolutely nowt) said by the vast majority of Sunderland fans. (Some have painted themselves into a corner on the subject)…… not all, but most
You can only make your own decisions, not those of others.

Still a hard no from me. And it’s nowt to do with Saudi. He’s had his time at the club and we should be making the decision with the head and not the heart.

You don’t think it’s a head decision to bring in someone who has won everything, has top level experience and is still playing at the highest level?

It’ll be the head not heart like from us. Henderson would have no interest in joining Sunderland if we weren’t his home city

In fact I would wager he’s checking with tuchel weather signing for Sunderland will hurt his World Cup chances

If it will be will go to another top European side to make that World Cup squad.
Yep, or sort off part time player/ coach, only plays if lots on injuries. Would be great on the training ground with Bris and other coaches. Lots of EPL experience

ha mate. He’s in demand across Europe, he’s not coming to retire

He’s jn the England squad. He will never join in a million years unless he will play the majority of the game, he wants to make the World Cup squad

Yes from me, simple fact Is we need experience in the dressing room this season, we can't survive with young lads only so why not a Sunderland lad who's been here before, loves the club from top to bottom, has looked after himself physically, champions league winner and captain, premier league winner and captain then the cherry on the cake is he has just been called back up for England, can't be that bad If Tuchel still wants him.

Really, personally don't see him in World Cup squad, Tuchel must be desperate.

I’d imagine either Burnley or Leeds fans would be salivating over the prospect of signing someone of Henderson’s calibre and a few other premier league clubs higher up the food chain.

I know there’s other aspects conflicting people but as a footballing decision it’s a complete no brainer.

Henderson is literally in England squad and would be playing champions league football

Mvilla has never been close to being the player Henderson was at any point in his career
Henderson was obviously a much better player when they were at their respective peaks but the same argument was made for M'Vila regarding the fact that he had recently been playing European football. The flaw with that argument is that they were both playing for big-name clubs where the overall quality of their domestic leagues is very poor

He'll be in the team more for what he brings to the side in the background and in an organisational/experience sense.

Henderson's wages will no doubt be silly for someone of his age. There's no doubting he's been a quality player over the years but I'd rather we had mobile, motivated, ambitious, younger player with their best years ahead of them.

Sentimentality aside ..

Age contract length and wages ... are real concerns

Would he be coming as a coach ... tuchel seems to be using him in a pseudo coaching / morale bridge... could we do the same
