Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

That’s a strange feeling. I had more like Steve Bould in mind or even Dwight Yorke.
Players who win pretty much everything at the highest level
Yorkie was canny in the championship as we were a winning team, his performance in the 7-1 at Goodison , inspite of scoring the goal, was a total humiliation for a player who'd achieved everything. Edit; I see he was hauled off at half-time immediately after scoring, for Dickson Etuhu.

I don't want him back at the club. He's no doubt a superb footballer and captain. However, he sold out his ethics and moral stands for money. He's therefore not the sort of role model I'd want for my children to have as a poster on their wall. He was already a multi millionaire so didn't need to go to Saudi to feed his family.

I realise, as ever, that I am in the minority and most people think I am mad (or add whatever adjective gets thrown at me on here). There aren't many things that are important enough for me to change what I do, but there are some. I will never buy a Tesla. I won't set foot back in the USA until the Orange Toddler leaves office (or more likely dies). I won't be watching our matches against Al Qaeda next season.

I've thought long and hard about this, but if he does sign then I'll be walking away from the club. I'm fed up of Saudi sports washing. The mags celebrated with tea towels on their heads. We can do better than that. I think it was a dreadful move that Henderson went out there for the blood money. It could otherwise have been a Roy of the Rovers fairy tale end to his career with his boyhood club.

I'd far rather have Luke 'I celebrate goals with my shoulder hanging out' O'Nien any day, even if that means we watch Preston North End again the following season.

You'll find that people with morals and ethics frequently self-reflect and think carefully about their decisions. That's why they make those decisions, instead of pretending things don't happen.
Walking away from the club seems a bit OTT

I agree with your stance on sportswashing wholeheartedly and have reservations about Henderson much like you do. But as a player for Sunderland the fact that he has PREVIOUSLY played in Saudi will not benefit the Saudi sportswashing machine whatsoever.

He becomes an employee of the club who made a morally dubious decision which I'm sure he regrets given he did not recieve any pay for his time there. I think he would provide invaluable mentoring for Neil and the other local lads and clearly his leadership would be hugely beneficial for us, evidenced by Tuchel's commitment to keeping him in the England setup. A player of his calibre in terms of leadership and mentality might be the difference maker for us.

Sportswashing is vile but signing Henderson won't contribute to it; it would however be huge for us, imo.

I'm struggling to think of any players in recent years that we brought back that were better second time around. In fact the ones I can think of they all were massive disappointments.
I think the issue is the recent ones we we brought back were more than done, annoyingly I think defoe was sort of getting into a groove of things and shaking that rust off and promptly bottled it.
I'm not saying Henderson would be great, but if he came in with a full pre season I can see him making an impact

If he signs I hope you're right mate

Let’s be clear, Sunderland signing Henderson has zero tangential relationship to the sports washing. Fair to have no respect for him, walking away from your fandom completely is a strong lea. I hope riding along the journey of SAFC with the community here can help override that feeling of walking away.

That is a well written post and I shall give my position a lot more thought.

Tell you what would help though, if he did an interview and confirmed how much he regretted going there, regardless of whether or not he joins Sunderland.

Henderson still gets in the England squad
Big fan of Neil but he isn't better than Henderson

England plays against Estonia and Latvia, not Liverpool and Arsenal

International football is completely different to the Premier league. Same as the Dutch league is.

He gets in ahead of some very good players. That's not by default, it's because he's good enough. I've a feeling Henderson knows what it takes to compete in the the premier league after playing in it over 400 times

I will never buy a Tesla!!! What a backbone you have! After Israel, Saudi Arabia is one of the most progressive nations in the Middle East. What’s your views on Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, - and how do you protest against these nations?

My point is this. If you don’t want the club to sign Hendo just state footballing reasons. All this rubbish about him playing in Saudi is woke nonsense. He is free to play anywhere he wants. These wokies who try and look down on people who conduct their affairs with hard work need to take a look at themselves.
What does his property portfolio look like mate?

You’ve got to understand the same people crying about him taking Saudi money would uproot their full family in an instant if they were ever offered the kind of money they offered Henderson.

But none of them have or ever will be in that position so they think they are clever preaching behind their computer screens.

Absolute sad fuckers

I am completely torn on this.
I was very vocal on here about how he had blown up all of his bridges with me by going to that evil state.
BUT….in the end he did leave early and didn’t take the money….
So, I am more leaning towards him coming back and using his experience to ‘mentor’ out young players.

He would be a huge help I think (How could he not be!), but there is still that bit of residue from him doing the full U-Turn on what he previously stated were his values.

Wouldn’t boo him or turn my back on the club….but it still makes me feel uneasy.

What has ‘woke’ got to do with this?

Henderson made a mistake going to Saudi but comparing that to the mag sportswashing ownership is laughable. The vast majority of SAFC fans will welcome JH home.

Take your warped shit stirring right wing nonsense elsewhere where it will be picked apart accordingly.
