Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Now count the amount that haven’t worked out…….

I think this pining for ex players is all a bit nostalgic tbh. We would be better off looking for talent in ligue one and the bundesliga.

Henderson would likely cost a pretty penny in wages alone and he would be retiring in 2 years…

I think we need to be looking at being a bit brave and ambitious in honesty, bringing in the best youngsters we can find who are frustrated they aren’t getting regular games yet at the top clubs.

That’s the point with Henderson tho, we won’t sign him unless he takes a massive pay cut.

He’s won everything you can at club level, has bags of experience, knows what it means to sunderland fans and as far as I can tell he’s still in good shape.

He might start games in the first season back, but his mentorship to the young lads would be invaluable. But it’ll only be if the price is right for the club.

I trust the club to get it right on the transfer front. But I can’t see Henderson working out if he came back. I’d rather we continue to build on what’s brought us continual success the past 4 years. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water is my thoughts unless someone like Henderson is available effectively on a free or thereabouts (a la Browne or Evans etc)…. Otherwise it’s wasted opportunity cost

Henderson would be a Browne type signing, but at a higher level with more experience. A wise head to guide the young lads, know how to see games out etc.

All about opinions, the clamour for foreigners amazes me.We only had Enzo and Mayenda the other 9 were British in the final .Meanwhile we have a list as long as your arm of foreigners hidden all over the world on loan who we somehow gonna have to shift. We need at least 3/4 experienced Hendo types next season IMO.

It’s about value for money there for me…. The Bundesliga and Ligue one have some very talented players. You’re more likely to find the likes of premier league clubs who stay up shopping there than in the championship or for players over the age of 34 who have recently been playing in the Middle East and Dutch league…
Surely you rate Danny Graham?
I’d rate him to prop a door open or hold a bookshelf up

It’s got Defoe written all over it, great footballer , very proud of his SAFC association and what he achieved but it’s a no from me.
Very different to the defoe situation... defoe wasnt even getting into the rangers team and it could be seen he was finished. Henderson on the other hand is still playing european football for one of the best teams in holland and been brought back into the england set up🤔

Google says Ian Harte has played for twice, once when he was young and then came back under Keane but I can’t find any evidence if this.

Been a bit shite though by all accounts, I stand to be corrected obviously.

I was against Henderson coming back but think he could be a good fit and will offer massive experience of the league. If it were me in that situation I'd be willing to play for nothing! Sunderland gave him his start, he's had a great career with Liverpool and earned a fortune with them and then the stint in Saudi. Take a nominal wage and come back to finish your career with the club you support.

They're not mutually exclusive. We've signed young players and also signed older heads (eg: Pritchard, Batth, Evans, Browne). Signing Henderson wouldn't mean we're giving up on signing under 24s with potential & ability to deliver immediately

what's his stats been like for this season?
his age and wage demands seem counter intuitive to what we have become, hence what in the data makes him buck that trend

We wont be paying him much he has made his money. The facts are that he is Ajax skipper and Tuchels England have called him into the squad.

Still waiting for someone to tell me when has previous players returning ever worked well for us?….
