Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

But I think we’d all agree that his best days as a player are behind him. It seems to me to be the old Sunderland approach of overpaying someone who may not now be able to positively contribute to a PL midfield.

I get the experience angle and of course I have no way of knowing how much we’d end up paying him. But pre this regime I got sick to the back teeth of seeing players coming to us for one last pay day when their best times as a player were well behind them.
This 100%.

I didn’t quote you directly, my comment was on a general situation as being discussed on this thread, please don’t tell me how or how not I can comment, your opinion on my posts is yours to have as freely as you choose, I don’t need to know someone to be able to read what they post.
Please enjoy the rest of your day.
I think you are a good poster and welcome to your view as I am with mine but don’t need pointing out I haven’t a moral compass by default or otherwise :-)

Bringing JH home would be a fantastic move by the club imho to a squad that needs nous and leadership. Our young lads will massively benefit.

I personally think JH was wrong to go to Saudi but anyone comparing the ownership and sportswashing of a football club to JHs actions is way off the mark imho.

Enjoy your day too👍

Football had moved on since the likes of Bould being signed and making a difference back then (although that was short term before his injury)

Having said that, we do need a squad, strength in depth and some experience. We’ve seen the likes of Milner make a difference late into their careers.

If the finances are right and Hendo still has the legs (even to come on and see vital games out) help in the dressing room / training ground then I’m not against it.

I agree . We were lucky to have him when we did and we are rightly proud that a Sunderland Lad has achieved what he has but we have done the retirement home for former greats a bit too often in the past.

More often than not it has very short term benefits and folk feel let down and angry when they discover that a 35 year old man no long plays like his 25 year old former self. It ends up not being fair on anyone.

I would rather bring in a 22 year old who show some promise of being able to play like Jordan Henderson when Jordan was in his prime.

He's still making the England squad and is thr captain of Ajax. He's not decrepit and unable to run FFS 😂

he'd walk into our team and comfortably be our best player as things stand. if he was still pissing about in Saudi then fair enough but he's been a regular for Ajax and worked himself back into the England team. Tuchel isn't just picking him for shits and giggles. we're not talking about someone here who's shot to bits

Anyone who doesn't want us to sign Jordan Henderson is a bit mental in my opinion.
Bellingham will probably leave and we will need to sign 2 CMs - Neil / Le Fee / Henderson and 1 more.
So hometown lad who loves the club - one of the best English captains of the last 20 years - won the lot as captain of Liverpool - one of the best passers in modern football - a tall, strong, fit lad - who is still an England international - er yeah, ya kna, maybe we sign someone else.
It is exactly this kind of signing that gives me hope we might actually stay up

Jesus wept - clearly a cracking signing if the wages are reasonable.

100%. There are lots of players in the European leagues who are younger and better options and keen to play in the PL.

We should be looking forward and not nostalgically backwards.

Hell, let's sign Vardy too - lots of experience.

This makes no sense at all.

You make an assumption that because he cares he'll do more than others - the others also get paid, are professionals, and want to build their profile/reputation.
I'm saying because he has a close connection with the club he won't just take a pay check and toss it off like all the other journeymen we signed last time. If you honestly think signing young hungry players with something to prove will keep us up I'll wager we will get relegated with less than 10 points. Look at other teams that have made a fist of it in the prem, one thing stands out all will have more than one player well into his 30's

I wouldn't disagree its the level of the expectations that he will be expected to meet by our fans that he will never be able to satisfy. Not because he lacks the quality be because they will be so unreasonable.

Whilst I think he would do a job, I am torn on the Saudi thing.
This.
I am conflicted because I was VERY annoyed at his hypocrisy when he first moved to Saudi Arabia and take their money.
But he didn’t stay very long, did he? He dropped the dosh and went to Ajax.
Did he feel differently? Did he see the moral error of his decision to to take their money blood money?
…..or did he just buckle under the pressure and tried to whitewash his image?

I think that he would do a great job on the pitch and on the trading field as a mentor to the likes of Rigg and Neil….but I am struggling to forgive him at the moment.
Sorry if people don’t agree, but it is how I feel. 😞

How anyone can think him coming back would be anything but an excellent signing is beyond me.

He'd set the standard at the club

Proper leader and operator
This.

For purely footballing reasons it's an absolute no brainer. He's still a current England international, captained a side to winning the Champions League, is fit as a flea and is a model professional.

Anyone who thinks he'd be a poor signing literally knows jack shit about the game.

Whether we sign Henderson or not if Jobe does go we’ll need to sign a big, physical midfield player or we’ll risk getting bullied and overran in midfield regularly.

It’s been very noticeable on the rare occasions Jobe hasn’t played we’ve been very easy to play through.

Think we need 2 tbh. Both need to have pace as well as being gifted in the height and physicality departments.
