Jordan Henderson compendium thread

So fuck. "Oh sorry I can't sign for you, I'm ambassador for the rainbow laces campaign"... 🤷‍♂️

How? why does his career have to be controlled by what campaigns he's got involved with in good faith.

At the end of the day it's dog eat dog, you have to look after yourself, coz nobody else will.

Everyone goes to Saudi because of the uplift in pay. Footballers are no different, he may also have had no offers in this country and it was obvious Liverpool were finished with him.

He would have taken shit wages, money was not a motivating factor about wanting to come to SAFC.

Yes they were, he was told he would no longer be first choice and at his age that's a big thing.

And???????????????????

Isn't it not a standard thing to do if going to the Middle East for a contract. Why would you pay tax in this country?

No he doesn't at all.
Give ya heed a wobble

No one is saying he should burn in hell but he’s gone on like a bit of a dick from the start of the Saudi move now looks totally stupid …. The criticism is justified

I haven't said anything of the sort. The article says he has tax liabilities as a result of leaving his contract. It also says he hasn't been paid anything and won't be. I'm only questioning how both those statements can be true.

Also, of course you have no tax liability in the UK if you live in Bahrain and are not UK resident. But in the year you leave or come back to the UK permanently, you might end up with UK tax liabilities from overseas income.
Also, of course you have no tax liability in the UK if you live in Bahrain and are not UK residentnt - my response is Only after a full 2 tax years being a non UK resident.

Old rules you were allowed to be in UK max of 93 days a year if you were classed as normally resident in the UK.
When I first started it was 63 days.
Just had a look its 183 days now by sounds of it.
My company has an office in Middle East and a few of the lads have moved out there. When I looked into it you have to be resident outside of the UK for at least 3 years and if you come back during that period then your earnings during that period are liable for UK income tax. Beware for anyone going out to Middle East thinking they’re tax free and come back within that period.

The post you are quoting was a response to @Vauxie, who said that he lives in Bahrain and has worked abroad for over 50 years. It was not referring to JH's tax situation.

So in summary, there is an article in a national newspaper that says a) JH is not going to get paid for the time he has spent in the middle east and b) that he has a massive tax liability on this non-income. My posts here have questioned how both of those things can be true at once (there might be a very good explanation, but I don't know what it is).

In response to this @Vauxie has implied I'm an idiot for thinking there could ever be a UK tax liability on overseas income (which there could be, but I have never said there definitely is in JH's case). And you have implied I'm an idiot for suggesting that there is no UK tax liability on JH's income (which I have not done, beyond questioning whether tax would be due on wages that were not actually paid).

It's not all in there though. You have explained why he would choose to defer his saudi salary perfectly well. However it does not explain how he would NOW have a big UK tax bill if he a) has not actually been paid anything by the Saudis and b) is not moving back to the UK.
I have no experience of the deferral matter - maybe he can do it maybe he can't. Check with tax people. Any deferral of payment if allowed would still be subject to tax unless he has been a non UK resident for a full 2UK tax years. Like I said and on the back of my 10 years working in the Middle East, if he left UK in July 2023, 2 full tax years mean he would have to be no UK resident and paying local tax till end March 2026.

I don't think I called you an idiot, if I did I apologize. My main grouse on all of this is that he should be left alone to do what he wants - and he is one of us. I dare suggest that over the last 50 years millions of people have worked in Saudi and took the tax free money I don't think I called you an idiot, if I did I apologize. My main grouse on all of this is that he should be left alone to do what he wants - and he is one of us. I dare suggest that over the last 50 years millions of people have worked in Saudi and took the tax free money and as such made a good life for their families. He should be able to do the same. I think he has got himself in a mess but that is something he should be able to do and not be vilified by his own makem breed.

Sorry I messed up the copy and paste but hopefully you get my drift

I don't even know what in my post you are responding to. Of course you are out of UK tax if you have worked abroad for many years. That is not the same situation as JH, who only moved to Saudi 6 months ago.

Also, not a single one of my posts in this thread have proposed that he owes any UK tax. In fact the opposite, they are all questioning the article that says he owes millions in UK tax with no explanation of why.
Chill dude, to be honest I don't give a f..k about Hendosy and his tax or wherev he earns his money wish he was coming to us.
Mair interested in us holding onto our players during the window and getting 3 points tomorrow night.
UK tax laws are forever changing but I think the article is nonsense,if he owed the tax man owt he wouldn't have been flying to Ams today from UK as they would have him.
Adieu mon ami enjoy the match the morn

I don't think he should be vilified either. I don't hate or even dislike Henderson. But pointing out that his actions have been hypocritical and short-sighted and done him reputational damage when he did not have a pressing economic need to take those actions is fair enough.

I'm chilled, enjoyed the conversation. Let's hope for 3 points the morra. I love reading this site and one this common about is how frustrated everyone is about how our love for our club is not enough to get the success we all crave. I'm 66 now and just hope before I join the great makem club in the heavens is for us to be successful..... long term.

For the record, the tax regime here in NL is significantly higher than in the UK. (Thats why the health system, transport , schools etc actually are in a reasonable state)
For example I pay a blended 47% income tax
So I'm not sure I see how coming to NL helps him in terms of tax ??? Especially as the expat ruling is being removed.
There will be a way around it. Most footballers at the higher level are their own companies si likely paid off shore if that's a loop hole. Harder in his own country.
