Plenty, given that it's pretty easy to distinguish between matters that are actually serious.
What's more serious than football? ;)

Just kidding, obviously, but another question... why does this charge change anything? He's still innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. Nothing has changed.

Am I missing something?

Why is this a ridiculous decision

He hasn't been found Guilty of anything

He hasn't but I know if I was charged With such offenses I wouldn't be allowed into work until the case was resolved.

I am amazed and disappointed by the decision TBH. We know the position of a footballer and their interaction within the public circle and their role as role models.

That would be seriously flawed.

Absolutely. However, an employer suspending an employee is not a judgement on guilt or innoncence nor is it depriving someone of their liberty.

The issues of suspension from work and guilt in a court of law are separate. If that court of law finds someone guilty, the company who allowed the convicted person to continue to represent them have been employing a guilty person from the moment he or she committed the crime.

Im no legal expert nor would I profess to be but the club have dealt with this very differently to how most employers would.
Is an employee legally obliged to tell an employer of charges prior to a conviction?

Gets arrested. Immediate suspension. Club looks at the situation with legal team and reckon it's bollocks so suspension lifted. In the meantime, after a very high profile arrest, the cps make the wrong decision to charge. Club maintain stance with employee.

Could quite easily be that scenario. Christ knows the cps make plenty of bad decisions.

Was just going to post similar. If i'd been charged i would expect to be suspended pending outcome. I'm sure loads of others would too.

Are you amazed & disappointed by clubs decision or the fact hes been charged mate?

Have to agree with the boy here. The Club will have access to far more details about the case than we do, in this situation I'd just leave it up to them.

I doubt it.........Johnsons brief wont be discussing the details of the file that's been passed to the CPS with anyone bar his client........

He has been officially charged and has to stand trial. It's no longer simply a case of an allegation that could be total horseshit - the CPS believe there are realistic ground for conviction. His association with the club right now tarnishes SAFC - not to mention the fact that expecting him to play professional sport at the top level with this hanging over him is probably detrimental to him too.

Why, if the club are now so keen to "back him", was he suspended in the first place? There are no two ways about it - the people in charge see him as essential to us surviving and couldn't give a fuck about anything other than that. It will serve us right if he goes down and we get relegated on the same day. The people running the club are buffoons with no sense of morality or, despite proclamations to the contrary, and meaningful sense of how to run a football club.

Sunderland AFC is increasingly becoming a cesspit and the whole board needs massive overhaul, never mind the God-awful playing squad.

How is it a poor decision by the club?

Didn't the likes of Remy and Bramble play right up until their rape trials. Just following precedent.

Short has spent the last 4 years trying to establish SAFC in other countries. He has entered partnerships with other clubs and large companies. I can only assume they are aware of the facts and have complete faith that the system will prove the lad is innocent. If not and this really is a shitstorm then
every board member should be forced to resign for putting the wealth of the premier league before the dignity of the club. I'm saying nothing else on the matter, the truth will come out in the long run.
