John Smithson RIP

I’ve been pondering all week if I should put something on here, thinking maybe someone else would, as I don’t like starting RIP threads. I’m sure many of you would have known John in local cricket circles, sadly he passed away last Sunday. I knew John or Sam as we also knew him as from being youngins playing junior cricket and he sort of got me playing again when he came to play at the same club as me. I also knew him from work what with being a pit sparky, albeit at different pits and we went to college together whilst doing our electrical engineering qualifications.

John also posted on here as Former Player for a while and through that we ended up back in touch yet again and meeting up many years later.

RIP John

I can remember Former Player posts and they were always of interest

Rip and condolences to family and friends

Knew John at Eppleton since I was kid and he was a great bloke.

Was quite gutted hearing the news the other day.

Played with his son Sean in juniors.

Thoughts are with the family. RIP John.

Sad news. Played with John at Chester le Street back in the day. A lovely lad and good cricketer. Condolences to his family.
