Joe Root

A little bit over dramatic don't you think  Root is mentally strong and will be back in during the summer.
I disagree with the decision mind and unlike Chunky I have no real doubts about him. Also I think it puts more pressure on Borthwick as Root can contribute with some useful overs of off spin if Scott is getting clattered a bit.

Agree about Root re: spin bowling plus he's the future. Ballance bowls leg spin but no idea if he's bowled recently?

No. What if these lads come in and do decent? Root goes goes to county cricket, performs same as he does as he's done here. End of TM cricket.

I posted last year that Joe Root should possibly be dropped down the England batting order to help him and the team.
One of the replies was "are you on glue"? I wasn't then and still haven't tired it - but I think the selectors may have not a sniff or two today.

He should have stayed as the opener. End of.

Bowled in 6 1st class games, 100 and odd balls never took a wicket. KP may have to turn his arm over.

OR we could have faith in Borthwick. I know you're off the drink. Plecase don't ban me.

Sorry like but that is over dramatic tosh. He will be in during the summer and he will have a great future for England. Also hypothetically if England are good enough to get huge totals in the future without Root then where's the problem?

No, you shouldn't. Anybody who drops Root is just a silly idiot. He's potentially the best batsman in the side bar KP. Mentally, dropping Root could be career suicide. Carberry is 33 and has hardly set the world alight yet is still in the side.
If dropping him is career suicide then he doesn't have the mentality of a top sportsman and he'd be no big loss. I don't think that's the case personally.

Should never have been moved from 6.

He isn't good enough to open IMO, just because he is young means you have to play him every game.

more runs

if you are saying that carberry has scored more runs then that is being a bit simplistic. root has age on his side, his ability to bowl off spin and crucially he hasn't dropped simple catches that have cost us games. carberry has been a liability in the field - scoring 30-40 runs hardly makes up for it.

This, the balance of the side was fine with Compton opening. Surely they could have given him a bit longer......anyways he won't be back and the side is a right f***ing mess.

Root has bags of talent. I wouldn't judge him on this series where none of the coaches or the senior batsmen has shown any sort of example or leadership qualities.[DOUBLEPOST=1388733886][/DOUBLEPOST]

This. Flower and the selectors have some serious thinking to do when they get back from this shambolic tour. Too many players have been in a comfort zone and un droppable and the lack of succession planning sees England caught with their trousers down.
