Stay or go as captain if we lose this series.
I just dont think he is a natural captAin and a leader.Brearley Gatting Vaughan set the bar high.Root like Cook before him is struggling and like Cook it is affecting his batting.

We certainly need to be thinking about alternatives. It's ruined his hitherto excellent batting and he isn't anywhere good enough as captain to warrant this.

If we lose this match it will be down to him letting the game drift with uninspired bowling changes and clueless field settings in the first innings.

In lieu of outstanding alternatives, I'd be tempted to bring Morgan in, replacing Pope in the middle order.

They're already talking about building the side around him for the next Ashes. No way a defeat in this series will cost him his job.

I don’t think Morgan would take it given he had to think long and hard about continuing as white ball captain after the WC and it would stop him playing in T20 leagues when they clashed with tests

Gatting had more chances than a lot of players when playing for England. He could fail and not be dropped. If he had been at Gloucester or somewhere like that he would not have lasted. Ramprakash was the same. Brearley was the best captain I saw in Test matches.

I agree with you about Morgan though.

Possibly. But he’s still got a lot to prove.

when keeping he has a virtually identical batting record to ..........Tim Paine

He has got that big game mentality imo, if we went of just his record he would not have been called back into the team in the first place, fortunately the selectors seem to have the foresight to look beyond just stats.

He is now in his proper postiton in the line up, and should be given a confidence boost, told he has got a good run in the side and we will bear the fruits of that imo.

Captaincy maybe a touch early for him like, I always think Buttler listening to pundits from abroad he is rated higher in other countries than his own.

He’s 29 now, so it’s now or never

and at some point the stats generally define how successful a player is

Go, it's like Pee-wee Herman leading the team, he was an abortion of an appointment from day 1. He's only been kept in the job by Stokes.
