None of our current crop of defenders give us what Dan Ballard does in my opinion. He’s the best of the lot in the air, in both boxes and based on how we currently setup, he’s a mainstay in that RCB position.
 
This lad is running down his contract to get a better move and probably a bigger wage elsewhere. If he comes here he's behind Alderete, so would he be happy to spend large periods on the bench?

I'll trust whatever the club want to do, but I would have thought bringing in a young CB who's stock is rising would be a good alternative to a CB that will probably be unhappy if he's left out of the starting line up on a regular basis. It makes a lot more sense if we were in Europe, but I think we may just miss out on that this season.

I just can't see us signing a defender for €30M and not starting him and I think overall Alderate is better than Ballard.

That is no slight on Ballard mind, I just rate Alderate more at this moment in time.
 
Bologna CEO wants the deal now that his buy out clause passed, he isn’t signing a new contract anytime soon and we didn’t budge on what we were prepared to pay. I really can’t see us paying this inflated amount.

We basically got Roefs, Mukiele, Alderete and Reinildo for roughly £30m! The piss taking party has definitely been stopped!

Yeah, totally get that. Different type of defender, and they complement each other so well.

Yeah , no way will we pay more than we were looking at in the summer . We dont need to , so why would we. Unless we're getting a mad offer for Ballard and then we'd need a quick, ready made replacement.
 
Not sure he'd be in the top 3 CBs now. That said, he could be next season so could have a few months to settle in etc - especially if its a bargain price.
 
He's not exactly covered himself in glory since the summer been inure, got dropped and the couple of times I have seen him been a bit all over the place and not generally arsed, as a couple of other posts. Maybe just pissed off but not a great look tbh. and no better than we have. There are much bigger gaps that need filling rather than defence.
