Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

Seems like the logical next step in recruitment. Mukiele is a better RB than Hume.

We need to ensure Mukiele can start every game he’s available at RB, Hume as the back up. That means we need 5 CB’s if we’re going to play a back 5 regularly.

Alderete & Ballard. Geertruida can play there but I’m not sure CB is his best position, we could do with another out and out CB.

I’d still like us to sign Geertruida. Him, Xhaka, Sadiki, Diarra & ELF are 5 good midfield options.

I agree with this but the issue is all of those CM’s will want to play.

Or could sign a specialist midfielder and this bloke.

Just think it’s a chance. Lot are presuming we will just sign him. But if did feel like we got him last minute on loan, it’s worked out well but think Theres probably a reason they just didn’t buy him like all the others

Let’s see

Good options tho
Nah i agree. He might not even want to stay as he hasn't nailed down a spot. His parent club will also be back in the champions league next season and might think he has a future there.

Would love us to sign a LCB. Alderate is brilliant but we need 2 players in every position.

€30M is a lot for a player that is out of contract in the summer mind!
Two players for every position is a bad way to build a squad. If this lad is coming in we could really do with him being able to play as both left and right cb. Otherwise we’ve just lashed money to sit it on the bench every week.

Would have to imagine that it would make it far more likely that Geerty goes back if we sign this lad. We’d probably need him to, given it would take us even closer to the foreign player limit.

All Centre half’s should be able to play on both sides and alot of them do. Moving from RCB to LCB really isn’t a big deal. In an ideal world you would have a right and left footed at the back but it doesn’t really make a difference along as they good. Look at the best prem CB partnerships in the past. Bould Adams both Right footed. Terry and Carvalho the same as were Rio and Vidic.

To compete higher up the league, you need 2 players in every critical position. With teams able to put 9 on the bench it is easier to keep players happy.

If we were to sign Lucimi for €30M I'd be expecting him to start ahead of Ballard and able to play either side. In theory CB's should be able to play either side and whilst the vast majority can they'll all prefer to play one 1 side more than the other.
It just makes sense to have that balance in the squad

Always room for improvement in every position. I just hope that if this one comes off, there’s still enough PSR wriggle room to make additions to the top end of the pitch as I think that’s where we could really do with reinforcements.

Club have operated really smartly in the market though and it won’t be lost on them that we don’t create a lot from open play.

I think we need a CB so that Mukiele can play on the right and doesn’t have to move centrally whenever there’s an injury. Maybe O’Nien can do a job.
Yesterday’s performance suggests he can. Wouldn’t be looking for another cb in this window, we have other priorities

If we are back in for him I could see it being we want to play 5 at the back more often Lucumi, Ballard and Alderete with Mukiele and Reinildo as the wingbacks

Maybe we have the means to get multiple positions this window? Who knows what the situation is.

We need another quality centre back, Ballard is often injured, Mukiele was often injured before he came to us, Alderete has been quality but lately his performance has dropped a tad probably due to tiredness.

Onien isn't good enough and a liability. A good performance against an Everton with 8 changes proves nowt.

Rotation becomes more important as the season goes on, injuries and tiredness build up, it's always the teams with the most depth who finish the season strongly.

RLBs system relies on defensive strength before all else.

Did you intentionally ignore my last paragraph?
I agree with this but the issue is all of those CM’s will want to play.

Most will get the chance to play a fair amount. We’ve been lucky this season in that only Diarra has missed games through injury, we knew AFCON was coming before it arrived.

Don’t blame the club for going back in for him, can’t be letting Man City take our top target who we put all the ground work in with 😊

IIRC from the summer, Lucumi can play RCB

Ballard does not need replacing like.

I've never said he needs to.

If we were to sign a defender for near €30M, I would expect them to start though and I'd imagine RLB would take Ballard out of the side ahead of Alderate.
No way will we pay that much now. Can't he buy himself out of the final year of his contract now, just needs to notify the club by a certain date?
