Our local allotments were broken into last week, they only took the communal lawn mower, the plot thickensAye, like my gravy, the plot thickens….
I think both are true to an extent. A lot of the players from last season will have wanted to play PL football and, because many of them are young, I think PL teams would have wanted several of them to develop, especially given we might not be in a financial position to demand a fortune for some. Cirkin would probably be wanted, especially with only a year on his deal, mayenda possibly wanted as well, mundle if he wasn't injured would get interest. Rigg would have teams sniffing about. Hume might have done, same with patto, could imagine a newly promoted side looking at Neil with a year left etc. What I don’t understand is prior to promotion, the narrative on here was “if we don’t go up this year, we’ll lose all our best players. They’ll be picked off by Premier League clubs”.
We get promotion and suddenly all of these players who were going to be sold are nowhere near the level required for the Prem.
The truth is somewhere in between I suspect- the step up is huge, but Liverpools squad isn’t full employers with the quality of Salah which is what some seem to expect.
Oh well. Doesn't sound like a goer then. Cheers.Zero.
Liam Delap at Ipswich is a good example.I think both are true to an extent. A lot of the players from last season will have wanted to play PL football and, because many of them are young, I think PL teams would have wanted several of them to develop, especially given we might not be in a financial position to demand a fortune for some. So I think it's possible that, had we stayed down, we'd have had a hard job keeping the side together due to PL interest whilst it's simultaneously true that not many of them are currently good enough to be starting in a PL eleven and avoid the drop. A bit like Watson, not even our first choice in his position last season, I seriously doubt he'd be tearing it up in the PL if we played him every week, but highly regarded enough for Brighton to snap him up to develop
Not reading all thatLiam Delap at Ipswich is a good example.
Good enough to get a transfer to a top 4 prem team, not good enough to keep his team up.
Ultimately the likes of Rigg would play a much smaller part in a top team with 15 top class players around him to learn from, with the hope of breaking through next year, then a team in a relegation fight where he's expected to chip in and make a difference this year. He can be good enough for the former but not the latter (though I actually think Rigg will have a great season with us).
Having said that there is a huge irony that keeping that midfield of Le Fee, Neil and Jobe together was one of my main motives for wanting promotion and then one was sold anyway and the other two don't look like being starters, with one maybe being sold as he's not signed a new contract. It's a nasty catch 22 where good teams that don't go up get taking apart and good teams that do also do.
It'd be interesting to see a sliding doors moment wherein watson misses at wembley and what happens then. I think we would still sell Jobe and Neil would still not sign a new contract, so it would be like it has been in real life, but it would all feel very different in light of us not spending 120 million on new players as well. Very glad that didn't happen.
Ale taster speaks, we listenI hope no one is daft enough to think that this one is dead in the water....

People are saying loan Rigg out??Agree.
Many of the promoted squad are qualified to be in a Premier League squad. People saying Riggy needs to go out on loan- didn’t Liverpool have that young lad from the Chelsea academy in their squad yesterday and I reckon he’s only 16.
Wrong, I want nowt but the best but simply pointing out a players limitations, I could flip it and say there's some of you who simply see nowt wrong in certain players, even in league one we had World beaters according to some of you,It's a thread about Lucumi , there's threads on the other players . He'll get a game if and when RLB thinks it's the correct decision, that may or may not happen, but there's a few of you can't wait to jump in with the negativity before it's happened , great motivation for the lads ffs.
You don’t think Luke’s presence is a huge huge factor for the coming season?Wrong, I want nowt but the best but simply pointing out a players limitations, I could flip it and say there's some of you who simply see nowt wrong in certain players, even in league one we had World beaters according to some of you,
At the end of the day I'd like nowt more than to be proved wrong by luke, but I doubt he'll get much of a chance to prove it.
Now fletch that is something else entirely, massively yes, in around the changing room, match days and so on 100% yes.You don’t think Luke’s presence is a huge huge factor for the coming season?
Can’t lose him, if just for that imo.Now fletch that is something else entirely, massively yes, in around the changing room, match days and so on 100% yes.
Agree with pretty much all of that except I think Xhaka will now fulfill that role and I don't think he will allow standards to drop, but I fully expect Onien to be in around the squad simply because he is a massively loved,Can’t lose him, if just for that imo.
But to be able to bring him on if we’re looking flat and out of ideas, just to get a reaction out of the lads will be a massive plus imo. Knows his limits but never gives up and that will be huge.
IMO he’ll he this seasons equivalent of our last minute goals under Keane.
Defensively over the last few seasons he has easily been as good as Ballard, and Better a lot of the timewith the exception of the play-off games, where Ballard was in cheat mode.Luke would get absolutely tortured in the PL
I really love the kid and don’t want to witness it - there is zero chance of him being good enough unfortunately, absolutely and exactly zero
Xhaka is going to kick some arse like. If true regarding his coaching badges, could be a brilliant time to watch him.Agree with pretty much all of that except I think Xhaka will now fulfill that role and I don't think he will allow standards to drop, but I fully expect Onien to be in around the squad simply because he is a massively loved,
I also think he has a huge role to play if he's still here after he hangs up his boots.
Nail on head.I think both are true to an extent. I think 09 will surprise a few. When we got promoted from League 1 almost immediately plenty on here were proclaiming him not good enough. Felt like there was a desperation to "wash" the stench of league 1 off us by getting rid of everyone associated with it.Can’t lose him, if just for that imo.

Maybe he could take over as the matchday mascotNow fletch that is something else entirely, massively yes, in around the changing room, match days and so on 100% yes.
