it's mental people want to completely mix up the back four as a 'solution' to the problem. seen people suggesting Xhaka as a CB man

it's a real worry the current lack of defenders but putting even more players out of position is not the answer even in the short term

i think CB is more important so I'd currently go with Reinildo in the middle (and even then i think that's really dicey due to his lack of height) and Huggins at LB. it cannot be Jones. i've at least seen Huggins have good games there. granted at a completely different level

i really thought we'd bring at least one in this week. given we need two. not ideal as even if we bring someone through next week it's going to be chucking them in when a friendly or two first would have been ideal given we've known about this centre back issue for what seems like months now. just don't want to see a poor start because of not addressing an obvious issue put all the other good work to waste

The annoying thing here is fans putting together make shift teams on a forum, it shouldn't be happening.

We're a top tier club with huge resources and we've missplonked badly. The first signings should have been GK,CHs and CF, or if not signed negotiations in place from day one of the window for our targets.

The GX signing is a fabulous signing, he'll end up our coach in the future.

You make it sound so easy, you have no idea how long the signings we made took to complete.

Bulka for example was all but done at the end of June before a Saudi team came in. So I would say we made gk a priority.

Do you seriously think the recruitment team have just been ignoring the defensive positions?

That’s probably the best we can do at the moment.

It’s unfortunate to have Alese, Cirkin and ONien all out.

The alternative is to play 3 at the back. We don’t have wing backs so we would have to wing it, with a sort of lopsided 3-5-2

100% this. And I agree, it’ll be Hume, Huggins as fullbacks and Reinildo/Ballard at CB.

Far from ideal marra,but probably the best of a difficult situation unless we get a centre back in.

I don’t believe it is, it’s massively over-thinking it rather than just playing players in the natural positions. Hopefully though we can get atleast one good CB in so the defence will more or less pick itself

It’d be a huge risk to go with either of them, let alone both.

I think the way to get towards that is by sitting in shape with good defenders and midfielders who use the ball well. We’ve got a bit of that done but the bit we haven’t obviously does create a bit of worry.

We’ll get it done by end of August. Keep the faith!

I really don’t think it is temporarily. Xhaka just drops back. We’ve then 3/4 in their natural positions and Xhaka, highly experienced, playing where he has filled in before.

Not ideal, but not horrendous
