They're clearly trying to sign a really top level centre back and we've targeted players that would be considered a coup. Hardly a surprise that they're difficult deals to do. I still think we will be getting one imminently.

Maybe so. But given the previous business we’ve done, it’s clearly not for the want of trying.

I’m confident we’ll get it done by the end of the window. That is a bit frustrating given we need to make the most of the kinder fixtures in August but that’s the way it goes.

It might make sense for two or three games to put Xhaka alongside Ballard, Reinildo left back and get Diarra, Sadiki and Le Fee as the midfield three. I’d be more confident with that than having Seelt or Jones in the back four.

We've basically had to overhaul the entire starting XI - that we are really only significantly short for CBs (2 ideally) shows we got a lot of business done early.

This would be my solution also - I am confident Granit could Xhak it - I understand he did this for Arsenal a couple of times

We definitely haven't previously had a mental block on cbs. In fact they're normally one of the first positions we fill in previous windows.

Seelt and Jones now that's scary as fuck.

Yeah moving players around like you suggest may happen, but the reality is at this level that should never have to be done.

Just hope they can find a CH in time.

While I agree i think we need at least 2 cbs. Id like to have signed the riskier of the two by now. Like signing xhaka took a while but sadiki somehow didnt.

Could switch Hume to left back ,play Sidiki at right back, Reinoldo as Left centre back partnering Ballard.

Two mins lad I’ll just get the lads doing the deals on the phone to let them know that we need quality centre backs, just incase they didn’t know.

Every team has to do it now and again. I’m sure Xhaka had to fill in there for Arsenal before. And I think Lorik Cana’s best performance in a Sunderland shirt was at centre half filling in.

It’s not ideal, but I’d rather have some experience and calmness in defence than gambling on two lads who barely have second tier experience let alone top flight. It’d at least be nicely balanced with the left footed experienced lads there as well.
