The release clause is reported to €28m with him being available for a bit lower in reality. So it’s certainly serious money needed if we are after him

He was properly linked to Roma (surprise surprise) recently, so it might just be the usual journalist links

We need experience at centre half. Bringing in the likes of Cresswell would spell danger for us imo

Yes that’s what I meant by “a bit lower in reality”. Still serious money

The reporting is all over the place. It was reported to be expiring 10 July

He was linked seriously with Roma earlier in the summer - so there’s the inevitable Ghisolfi link

A release clause doesn’t change a club valuation of a player or stop a lower bid being accepted. Would surely be more likely that a decision to match a clause is made before price goes up.

If any of it is true, and he’s been linked to loads this summer, it might be a case of Bologna wanting the clause figure but nobody is going to bid that. So if they do end up selling, it’ll be for a negotiated fee lower than €28m

That doesn’t change because of a release clause though, it changes because of the reality of bids. Poveda might have a 5m release clause but if we are offered 1m he’s sold. The only thing a release clause does is guarantee a bid is accepted at a certain price, it doesn’t stop the club from accepting bids that are lower and when it expires the club can still say we want 28m but could say they want more before giving permission to discuss terms with tge player.
It sounds made up to me.

Yes but they may be holding out for €28m now. And nobody may be bidding.

And then the reality of the situation kicks in later as (for example) €20m bids start coming in

Bologna are also offering him a new contract so there’s that in the mix as well

The difference with the Poveda situation is that Bologna actually see Lucumi as an asset, whereas we would love to shift Poveda

They are going to have to do this at some stage, at this level you cannot get good experience without paying money for it, not like previously where you could do it with free transfers and that
