Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

Birthplace doesn’t matter, just have to be in an English or Welsh academy for three years before 21.

Is that true? I know if you are youre homegrown but I thought Owen Hargreaves, as a random ancient example, counted because he was born here.

Edit: no he wasnt. He was born in Canada so he's a terrible example but I hope you understand what I mean

quick google/AI search states:

The Premier League’s homegrown player rule is designed to encourage clubs to develop and field more players who have been trained in England or Wales, regardless of nationality.
Key Points of the Rule
Homegrown Player Definition
  • A player is considered homegrown if, regardless of nationality, they have been registered with any club affiliated with the English or Welsh FA for a period of three entire seasons or 36 months before their 21st birthday.
  1. Squad Registration Requirements
    • Each Premier League club can register a maximum of 25 players over the age of 21 for a season.
    • Of those 25 players, at least 8 must be homegrown.
    • Players under the age of 21 do not need to be registered and can play freely.
  2. Purpose
    • To encourage investment in youth academies.
    • To provide more opportunities for young players trained in the U.K.
  3. Example
A Spanish player who joined a Premier League club at age 16 and spent three years in its academy would qualify as homegrown.

A 22-year-old English player who spent most of his youth career in another country would not be considered homegrown.

I've saw a few clips of Bologna's game from yesterday and he seemed to be happy celebrating the winner and at the final whistle.

Fair play, I wouldn't want a player who downs tools, if they sell fair enough, if not im sure that powers that be will make the right call on what to do instead.

We’ll have someone else lined up I reckon

Whatever happens, we need a CB coming in before the window closes.

IMO the club's plan is for our strongest back four to be Alderete and Lucumi at CB with Mukiele at RB instead of Hume (and obviously Reinildo at LB).

Regardless of whether the Lucumi deal gets done or not, we absolutely need one more CB of quality in as Ballard can't stay fit, Seelt needs a loan, and as much as I like him as a person, O'Nien can't play PL football.

Imagine Luke defending corners, gonna give away 5 pens a game 🤣
