Likewise - I am at all of the home matches.
The away match threads on here have become toxic over the last few seasons.
It was a bit of a laugh at first, but there are some idiots on here who won't or just can't see the big picture in some matches.

No coincidence the main protagonists aren't interested or indeed capable of engaging in any type of sensible debate about the subject matter.

Your contribution is to ask “ when was the standard pool higher” ( a loaded question if ever there was one) I couldn’t give you an honest answer as to when I thought the standard was higher, all I know is that the current crop Gillet, Pawson, Attwell to name but three are not proficient at their chosen profession.

He just constantly posts that same question, slightly adjusting it but that is all he ever asks.
He thrives on backing the refs no matter how bad they are.

Tbf Bournemouth are convinced Roefs should have been sent off so they think Gillet & the VAR were shit too.

It just seemed Gillet & VAR that day didn’t want to give/overturn any ‘big’ decisions. Really poor but not cheating as such.

It was a few years back with the likes of George Forster etc but since the appearance of one Howard Webb and the formation of the PGMOL things have deteriorated ,standards wise.. I've always maintained that too many or these "Elite Referees" need to be stood down now and again, IF, they really want to bring through new referees. All Officials have to pass a test to officiate across the Whole game. weve seen "elite referees officiate in games betwee the EPL teams and those from league 2 in cup competitions so why not in reverse. I can accept a different official for game, every single week, good or bad, as long as its just and fair. I don't accept that a referee cannot officiate in certain leagues or games nor do I accept that the same ones cocking up again and again and again.

Do you not think its because now the scrutiny is off the scale compared to yesteryear that the standard is perceived to be worse? You drop any offical into today's modern game and they'd all be getting the same criticism. Id argue now they are al full-time and getting more trained whilst obviously fitter than before the standard has never been better

If you can’t see that the current standard of many of our officials is below the required standard, then all I can say is that the next time I go to church I’ll light a candle for you at the altar of lost souls.

Of course some people go overboard, my point is and always will be that some of the officials (and VAR) get blatantly obvious decisions like the one on Saturday so obviously wrong, what sort of training gets them to this level?

Yes all of that sounds better to me

People sometimes making errors has been replaced by more people sometimes making errors but with screens and more scrutiny

It was better to simply say “well the ref has a tough job”. Now with var there’s always the added layer of why or why not it intervenes and whether that impacts a ref on the pitch and so on

I agree it was perceived to not be good enough by some, but that’s not a position I agree with

They bring a lot of it on themselves in reality. One week its a foul, Penalty, offside because of a toenail, push the next week its not . These referees all have to train together, attend seminars and have updates on what right or not during the season. They are scrutinised by, supposedly, top officials during the training and yet still manage sing from a different hymn sheet on a matchday by giving different decision on same or similar infringements.
One of the big things I've noticed and am sure many others have also, one that seems to have slipped under the radar is that prior to Xmas, being clearly pushed in the back, two handed, does not now constitute a foul where as before Xmas it did? Likewise, the amount of holding (Arsenal v Chelsea) should have resulted in goals being chalked off for arms around a players neck/back/shoulders and at least four Penalty awards being given for what were clear fouls. The same fouls that produced yellow cards in the outfield.
On VAR, I don't know just what these operators are seeing unless they are all kitted out with Stevie Wonders spectacles.
