Jan Paul van Hecke (rumour)

He'll probably have plenty of options come the summer. There'll be the sides going up to the Prem, those coming down. I'm sure Neil will be looking to replace Phil Jagileka at Stoke....he must be eligible for a bus pass this year!

I'm sure we'll hold a bit of an interest in him, but will he get ahead of Ballard and Batth? We've also got Alese, Onien, Cirkin and Anderson who can play there. I'm not sure we'll be as interested as other clubs may be in the summer.
Batth is 33 soon. JPVH is a better centre back than O'Nien, Alese and Anderson, we have to keep improving the squad and moving forward.

You can't just overload positions tho. Alese and Anderson have just been brought in man 😆

I doubt we've got a bottomless pit of cash so would you rather spend money on another CB to sit on the bench or would you rather that money went to the more expensive position of CF?

Wait until 2 CBs get injured, "Speakman is shit, we should have had at least 8 CBS"

I understand what you’re saying, but I can’t get on board with you here. If we have the chance to sign a player that will improve us, let’s do it. It might mean Batth plays less, it might be a master stroke as Ballard might end up moving on, cos he’s class. It could allow Anderson a year out at a decent League One side. Alese so far has shown some promise, but also has had a couple of injuries.

As for the striker side, we don’t know it’s one or another. We know we fucked up by not getting a striker in, but I don’t think it was down to we couldn’t afford one cos we had spent all the money elsewhere. It’s a pigheadedness that might be positive or negative, whichever way you look at it, that we want the right player for the right deal.

I'd totally forgot about Anderson from Everton

Think we'd have to make way for one senior CB if folk want this lad in. So Ballard, Batth or Onien...take your pick?
I wouldn’t personally consider O’Nein just a centre back. He’s played right back, left back, centre half in a two & three this season & midfield. He’s too versatile to fob off because we sign a centre half.

His strength is his own downfall. Too versatile to keep a specific spot.

When someone of his quality becomes available, you try sign him. O'nien and Alese are good enough Championship centre backs but JPVH is better than them. Injuries will happen, we need top level cover otherwise we'll just be another mid table championship club.

Each ro their own mate.

I'd love the club to go out and get each better player (I've not seen this lad play mind tbh) but I also think the club can't afford to just stockpile players. I doubt we'll get a big enough offer.to part with Ballard just yet and he's just built up a brilliant partnership with Batth, who although older (thought everyone wanted experience? 🤔) has shown nothing to suggest he's slowing down, he's in contention for player of the season if anything!

Even half decent strikers cost a lot of money these days, It's not unreasonable to think that most of our budget next season should be used in that area of the pitch when we're pretty well stocked for CB's.

All opinions of course.

His best position and the only one he seriously gets picked for is now CB. I doubt he'd be happy to see another CB come in with what's already there.

Could probably get a few quid for him and free up a spot on the bench for Van Hecke of you want another CB in like?

I haven’t seen him play like

Just going by people on here who’ve watched him & Blackburn supporters who reckon he’s the real deal.

I also agree that we’ll get at least another season from Ballard. He came to play football. There’s limited teams who can promise him first team football in the league above. I don’t think at this point, a better contract is the motivation.

I want somebody class in every position. But I think every team needs a O’Nein or Gooch who you can rely to do a job when asked. In their cases, any job apart from keeper

Mate, we all want the very best players in every position. I've not seen this lad on so that might be me airing on the side of caution as it's not like Brighton to give up a supposed top prospect for next to nowt these days.

Think we spent somewhere around 8 million this season, if that kind of cash is available again this summer, then a rather large chunk of that will probably go on at least one striker and a No.10 if Pritchard leaves (which looks likely with no contract offer and Stoke whispers) and maybe an older head in CM to cover Evans (or the other way around).

Don't see much activity happening this summer, the squad is young, throughly decent and it just needs some sprinkles adding to it (in my opinion).

Pritchard signed an extension for another year didn't he?

Would be a good signing. Like Ballard has a few games under his belt for his age. Would probably be first choice with Ballard giving us Batth, Alese and Anderson as competition which looks good to me. Hume and Cirkin in full back positions with O’Nien covering both positions and hopefully Huggins too.

I would like to see Charlie Cresswell and Van Hecke either bought or on loan. To strengthen the centre of defence. Aged 20 and 22, 6’3’’and 6’2”respectively . If loan, with option to buy. The spine of the team needs physicality. Rotation with Batth and Ballard. Anderson looks lightweight to me.When fit wing backs are covered. Midfield has potential but the one place we need another experienced head who can run the show. In the short term sign LND on long term contract. Add height and quality to our attacking options. We are keen on loaning players and Jordan Hughill’s rumoured return for a season is interesting but he’s not the finished article. Another striker with mobility and strength and height is needed. To supplement our goal threat. + some good luck with injuries.

I don’t think there’s been a successful defence in history that rotates centre halves mate. You get the right partner ship & let them play.
