I'd wanted to see more of Russell but despite 4 goals in 9 starts (close to 30 appearances overall IIRC) when we were struggling to score goals in the PL I felt the writing was on the wall for him.
I probably expected Bridges to be given more games as although young he was another who showed fleetingly he was up to it.
Think we got lucky on a few that season- Rae's move to Palace fell down. We were looking at Danny Granville when we picked up Craddock IIRC and Roeder's recommendation with Phillips over Connolly.
