They finished 10th and their top scorer had 11 goals. Doesn't sound like the most expansive side does it?
Also doesn't suggest that it should have been too difficult to get a game for them. Says a lot that he then ended up at Bury and I mean no disrespect to them.

The consortium involving Tony Adams and a Chinese multi millionaire are still in the background looking for replacement backers for the Sunderland 73 lads. Adams does not want to be manager so everyone can rest easy. This isn't over by a long chalk.
Btw, price agreed was 60m plus extra 20 if we got promoted.
If it's their level of net worth that they need to replace just to make a viable bid then I'd say it's definitely not the takeover we should be clamouring for. They don't exactly sound like they have good finances behind them (isn't that why their Villa bid failed too?).

I'm not even holding out for some multi billionaire that's going to bankroll us to promotion, I think those days are over really with FFP rules being implemented more stringently (though Wolves are making a bit of a mockery of that at the minute), I just want someone that will run us properly, efficiently and effectively as a football club to give us the chance of sustainable, long term (relative) success. Generalising massively but it's why the German consortium appealed to me, they're generally sensible and pragmatic in business and have a good model when it comes to football.

If he stays fit he knows where the back of the net is, Grayson has had him before so if we are in for him then he's the gaffer so it's his decision and must think he'll do a job, probably more of a back up signing and giving us depth rather than first choice imo!

@Buryshaker what's your thoughts?
the lads absolute quality but obviously im talking at league 1 level. Unlucky with injuries last time he was in the championship but to get 24 goals in such a bad team last season was immense. 24 goals in a bottom 6 side and his goals to mins on the pitch he did better than any other striker in the league. what people need to appreciate also is that we played 2 thirds of last season with no proper wide players due to a terrible injury list. he had zero service from wide positions and an ever changing midfield. its not just about his golas his movement off the ball is outstanding, sees things others dont. in my opinion hes the best striker we have had at Gigg for 20 years. Spoke to the chairman last season and id be amazed if he would go for less than 1 million maybe 1.25. If he stays we wil be right up there IMO especially with this new squad and Beckford alongside him

I know it's a f***ing mess but how the f***ing fuck has it came to this, a league 1 striker from a team that got relegated. There's skint then there's just what ever this is.
We didnt get relegated, the fact he got 24 goals in such an injury ravaged squad is testament to the lads ability. I saw every game the lad played his attitude and work rate is second to none and his strength, movement and eye for goal different class. I may support a league 1 side but i know a decent player when I see one

At the moment (and thats a big at the moment) he doesn't seem to be shopping outside of his comfort zone / players he has previously worked with. That's a worrying sign.

Wouldn't the equivalent here be Grayson signing four players he'd previously worked with?

Yes it would be.

This is true. Short is getting off very lightly FFS. People are still arguing about Moyes on here when it's clear we have a far bigger problem still at the club who continues to try to cheapskate our way to a decent football side while remaining determinedly focused on getting his cash back.

Well summarised. Short got us into this mess, it's up to him to get us out of it and by that he should be investing what it takes to build a strong enough side to compete for promotion.

We're not in a position to be fussy, we're totally skint, crippled with debt and we couldn't even get our Managerial first choice. People, have to accept this - We're in a terrible position.

Ideally, I'd love it if we were able to snub these sort of players, but we're not able to, we need a bigger squad, Vaughan has been there and done it, can fill in at a number of positions and will be a good squad member. He'll score a few goals for us, knows the club well, can play in a number of positions and would be available you'd hope under 1m.

We need bodies in ASAP, we've managed to bring a couple of defenders in, hopefully get McGeady over the line, get Vaughan in too. However, our priority now is Forwards, we MUST, must bring in at least 2 forwards (Ideally 3) as at the moment we've got no goalscorer, no target man, f***ing nothing.

Team is starting to shape up a little bit, much better situation than we were in 2 weeks ago that's for sure.
