Jack Ross

Not sure why so many people on here like him. For me it was obvious when he took all our strikers off against Portsmouth at Wembley that he was never going to be a good manager. I found him really patronising the way we would draw 1-1 against some shit team and he would go on like it was a great result.
I somehow completely forgot he left us with no strikers in that Pompey game, madness.

He was okay here.

Bottled it towards the end of the season so will fit in well up there

Cardigan sales through the roof on Tyneside

Just about every team has a wobbly patch, ours just happened to come at the end of the season.
He also had a much better squad than parkinson.

Bigger names maybe but it was an unbalanced squad with no real height or pace and half of them had developed the losing habit over the past few seasons.

Terrible manager.

Lost faith as soon as he rated Baldwin over Jimmy Dunne.

Playing negative football away to Fleetwood when we still had a chance of automatic promotion with a small goal difference swing was massively unforgivable too.

It was still a better squad. Under parkinson we had a front 2 of wyke and Graham for some of it. We had lost mclaughlin and replaced him with burge.

He (Ross) also had to blend a brand new team together.

Off the top of my head; McLaughlin, Loovens, Baldwin, Flanagan, James, Power, Maguire, Wyke were all brought in that summer and had to be formed in to a team.

Given the chaos we now know he had to deal with, like showing sponsors around the academy, he did a really good job. The football was great to start with and got more conservative as the season went on. I think he did a really good job.

Did a really good job:lol::lol::lol:

Sorry but no. None of the L1 managers did except Neil. Utterly laughable to say Ross finishing 5th was a very good job.

It’s not though is it jsdftm04.

We’d fallen through two divisions. He stopped the rot and turned us in to a team who were two games away from winning the football league trophy and getting promoted at the first attempt.

He was the manager we needed at the time. He was sacked far too early. If we’d kept Maja we’d have been promoted automatically.

I mean, he got us to within 90 minutes of promotion so that’s immediately better than Parkinson.

Grayson was a disaster.

He had us playing shit football with one of the best squads in the league, we were basically relying on Maja being an historically good finisher for them 6 months.

Well done on posting an old username that is widely available.

He didn't do a good job. He was 3rd level on points with 2nd and 2 games in hand and 6 games left. He finished 5th.

Complete coward of a coach. Which is why he also last 2 minutes in his jobs since. He was getting whacked for 6 and 7 weekly in his last role.

The football wasn't great at all. I can remember people saying we'll probably click in the second half of the season but all that matters is results.

Of course he shouldn't have been showing people around the AOL etc but that's besides the point, the owners were terrible.

We were rolling teams over the first few months. All the while bedding in a brand new squad at a level some of the players had never played before.

He did a very good job here, turning the ship around whilst working in difficult conditions. He gets absolutely too much stick on here.

Well he must have done a good job to get us to within the points you mention. The team did definitely drop off at the end of the season. It also coincided with Leadbitter being shoe horned in to the side and again the loss of Maja and the total lack of impact from Grigg.

There’s absolutely no way he is a coward. He’s a decent bloke who often takes a pragmatic approach. Getting smashed 6 or 7 in Scotland isn’t uncommon tbf. Tony Mowbray has probably lost the same amount of games by that margin in recent seasons and no one says he’s a coward.

Hes a decent bloke but he's a coward in terms of how he coaches a team.

He conceded 23 goals in his last 4 matches as a manager :lol:

Mark Robins must be a football genius.

Plus Lee Bowyer and any other manager who got their team promoted from league one before us.

And? Sir Alex Ferguson conceded 5 in his last game as a manager. Does that make him shite?

Mark Robins is a superb manager and I’d have him here over Mowbray absolutely.

Did either of those sides have a mass clear out following back to back relegations btw?

Some built new teams E.g. Wigan, Coventry City didn’t even have their own ground.

Some did, Coventry City didn’t even have their own ground.

We had Laurel and Hardy in charge.

Coventry had built a squad and Robins was given time. He’d got them promoted from League 2 and when they didn’t achieve promotion from League 1 in their first season he was given the time and got them promoted the following year.
