Jack Ross set to make first signing - EXCLUSIVE

If this is true and we get a young, hungry player in for the best part of a million then it's a bit of a statement IMO.

The entire spend in League 1 last season was £4 - 4.5 million. If Donald's right that he thinks we need about 15 in (if I've remembered that correctly) then he wasn't taking the piss when he said the transfer budget was considerable for this division.

er ... it's a shock that Ross hasn't gone for a keeper first?
Yes, people are forgetting that SAFC must only sign players in a strict priority order, regardless of any opportunities that avail themselves outside of that order.

Strangely, Ross might want to make his own assessment of what is already within the squad, whilst also recognising an opportunity to bring in a young midfield player who he already knows and values, for a relatively cheap fee, because he knows that with Rodwell and Cattermole currently in the squad, he needs to strengthen in anticipation of them continuing to make their usual contributions.

£1million? Absolute bollocks. Kenny McClean went from Aberdeen to Norwich for £300k and he's a proven Scittish Premier League player.
My thoughts exactly, another example the kid Morgan who St Mirren sold to Celtic last January for £300k, ok he was loaned back but that wouldn’t of made a £700k difference to the fee

Realistically we’re talking about a similar fee for this youngster, maybe with add ons, appearances, promotion (s), international caps, sell on % etc that might eventually take it up to £1m

One thing for sure Ross will know how much St Mirren value him and what they will settle for

Just to add they sold Mallan to Barnsley last year for a reputed £200k

Not a journeyman seeking a payday - will do for me this the profile of the players that we want.

By the time all the signing come i reckon i will be lucky to have seen 2 of them play heard of of another 3/4 the rest will not have a clue.

So have to trust the management to deliver a squad to compete.

Well this really. I m not thinking about specific players but before looking at our young players, how does he know that we don't already have a good young player as good or better than Magennis. They might look good in Scotland!

I was thinking "Midfielder? We already have plenty of those, we don't need another right now," but then I saw his age. Probably be worth having as an investment for the future or as backup to McNair, Honeyman and Gooch.

Doubt there's much truth in that. For that fee it would imo be an idiotic signing and a repetition of past mistakes. Chances he's some wonderkid unearthed by Ross are pretty slim compared to chances he's yet another ex-player fancied by a SAFC manager willing to pay fees/wages no one else would.
