Jack Clarke

give your head a shake you dunce
doubled his wage for next 4 years and in essence guaranteed the lad's and his kids never have to work again
would you not be happy with that for you or your kids ???
another jumpers for goalposts utter piffle
it just shows maybe Speakman was spot on. we bought him for nowt, made a big wedge on him and fact is he is a good pub league player but not good enough for premier, ie most of us firestick armchair fans dont have and never did have one clue about player assessment or value
His wage will be getting slashed a lot in the event of relegation, so that isn’t true.

It’s highly likely when they get relegated his wage will be reduced quite dramatically. Whether it’s to higher than what he would have been on here, we’ll never know.

Football wise, he’s getting relegated this year without making any kind of impression on the Premier League at all. Szmodics was signed at the same time & is ahead of him as it stands. Clarke’s best hope is they sack the manager & replace him with someone who’ll play a formation to his strengths. Now given that the manager will have built a lot of good will & has had them promoted from the Championship before, there’s every chance he could be managing them in the Championship next year. Where does that leave Clarke? How many Premier League clubs would sign a player that cannot make a dent in a terrible Premier League team? Not many, if any. How may championship clubs can afford the fee to take him to them & play him in his most effective position, not many, if any.

So you’re left with Clarke on a decent wage for one season, then potentially back to where he started money wise & knocking about the bench for far too long.

Still the money though eh?! Jumpers for goal posts, utter piffle etc.

If they do go down they'll have one of the best players in the championship though.

Personally I think Ipswich have been really smart. They signed some of the best young championship talent, knowing that a) they were likely to come down whoever they signed, b) it would be easier (and cheaper) to keep the squad together if they do go down, and c) if any do jump back to the Premier League if they are relegated, then they will make a profit on them. The big question is - how demoralising will this season be for the likes of Clarke and others. If they do a Sheffield Utd / Burnley, then they will go back up quickly with a lot of money in the bank and able to make real fist of stopping up. But they could do a Luton,

This philosophy in fairness got Vincent KOMPANY the Bayern Munich job which I’m still baffled about.
Just looked and seen Kompany has them top of the German League.

Martin got Southampton promoted but still got sacked. Although Ipswich had back to back promotions.

Can't blame Ipswich for giving it their best shot and signing whoever they can. Shame for Jack Clarke that they signed Szmodics, so he might be surplus to requirements if they need to strengthen somewhere else - they'll not lose much on JC and he'd have a lot of suitors. They might be ruthless, I'm kinda expecting it. They might not go down, but if they do they'll keep McKenna and the majority of their talent.

I wouldn't be happy with that, no.

Even if I was rich I would still want my kids to work.

I believe Bill Gates and other very successful business leaders have stated they won't be leaving their fortunes to their children. I don't think it is healthy to encourage children NOT to work... whether that is 3rd and 4th generation dole seekers or children of very wealthy parents.

Whilst most of that is true, the original posters point was about JC’a development, which has undoubtedly been stifled. It’s not like he’s training with a much higher class of footballer day in day out at Ipswich nor is he getting the minutes against the worlds best footballers. His development is being delayed whilst he’s picking up a pretty penny.

I think he’s one of those players that needs to find somewhere where he fits in, a fans favourite, very similar to Pat Roberts, these players need to be loved, obviously you would move for money, its not helping Ipswich playing him in the wrong position or he’s just not premier league standard

At some point, people need to stop talking about his "developement", as if he is a youth player.
He is 24 now, and about the time in his career where he should be expected to be pretty much "developed", and performing each game.

I remember a long time ago Niall Quinn pointed out that a lot of players don’t kick on any higher in their career after leaving SAFC. As if to say don’t take what you have here for granted. Henderson is the obvious one it really worked out for but I can’t think of many others recently.

He's obviously a decent lad and a very talented footballer. However, he played for Sunderland in The Championship. We haven't exactly blown that league away. Remember back to The Mags when they won their first 10 on the bounce in the second tier, including a derby win.

But Sunderland fans, and no doubt other fans, are often unable to remove their rose-tinted specs when they see their own players week-in, week-out. I remember writing to Terry Butcher when I was a kid begging him not to sell "world-class" Gary Owers. His poster was on my wall alongside Gordon Armstrong, Marco, John Kay and Tony Norman.

Jack Clarke will reach his natural level, and that is probably in The Championship, which is where Pisswich Town are heading. We got a decent fee in return for us losing his services. At the end of the season if we manage to get promoted we'll likely pass him on the Pisswich bus coming the other way. He will likely regret his decision in the long-term but he will be richer. It was probably a no-brainer decision at the time.

I wish the lad luck and I hope that he can get a run in the side, score some goals and enjoy his football against top class opposition. But ultimately I think I will return to playing Championship football from next season onwards.
