Jack Clarke

Miss him loads, think of him at all times. Spent the weekend creating a cardboard sign asking for his shirt in preparation for the day he finally returns to the SoL.

Anyone got his bobblehead for sale? Willing to pay big bucks.

Loads of people tout the line 'if i was offered double' etc but these people might be on 28k a year or something. It's completely different. You are more than comfortable on 15k a week or whatever so 30k to sit on a bench, play in the reserves and probably get relegated seems pointless IMO.

If he was 29 and his only and last chance to play in the PL fair enough. He has time on his side and the decision looks mainly down to money. It's a very real possibility he could only have 28-30 games in the PL, if he stays injury free and could end up relegated never to play there again.

You are forgetting the key point that players have an extremely finite shelf life and most don't make it to the PL at all.

He has signed a five year contract with likely a huge signing on bonus on likely in excess of £30k a week. You are right that he would have been more than comfortable on £15k a week but the Ipswich contract is at the level where he won't need to worry about working post retirement if he was careful.

On the flip side he could have stayed with us, not been promoted and seen his value diminish. He is now in the shop window in the biggest league in the world, any player with confidence will back themselves to succeed at the highest level. He could sign for another PL team if Ipswich get relegated but he performs well.

Don't blame Clarke at all for moving on. Like others have said, it's an incredibly short career and could be over tomorrow. Signing a 5 years contract that doubles (at least) your current salary is a no brainer and makes sure even if the worst happens he's going to be earning a fortune to set his family up. Football aside that itself makes it a no brainer.

There may be a relegation clause in his contract, but you'd still imagine he'd be on more than if he'd stayed here. We could end up getting promoted, but nothing is guaranteed.

Fair play to him imo, he's more than earned it. Good luck to him
