Jack Clarke

Not enough money in the coffers for the incomings, or him kicking off and asking for the move is all I can think of.

@MackemMagic saying he’s still deciding with family suggests it’s not Clarke forcing it.
IF and it's a big if. This doesn't sit well with us if it breaks down and we come in with a new contract

I know, no disputing that. But we've signed a 29 year old from Preston, a backup winger from Leeds who'd been on loan at Blackpool and Sheffield United and 2nd and 3rd choice keepers from Coventry and Stoke. None of those should inhibit us from signing a striker. It's not like back in the day when we'd sign someone like Zenden or Larsson on a free and accept we'd be paying a higher wage and hefty signing on fee.

Appreciate the Ballard and Jobe renewals too but we've also let players go - Embleton, Evans, Dack, Pritchard in January etc which offset much of those.
Book balancing is all it is.

Le Bris suggested he was completely fine and was even with Dodds watching videos to see how he could improve following training. So no suggestion that this particular bid was going to be accepted, seems like something happened late in the day.

I wonder if we will ever find out. The aforementioned said it was he guessed it was the amount of up front cash that swayed it. Seems a small thing to lose your best player over.

What happened to RLB bringing his own men in? More lies he’s been sold by Speakman.

Well, Clarke is off - end of one era beginning of another. Let's see who we can get to come in and if any existing players grab the opportunity! Good luck to Jack, he's been a wonderful player for Sunderland.

For the fee, I hoped we could do better, especially given that Spurs will collect, what? 25%? It's done now, no going back - only forward! Ha'way!

Still feels extremely low however way you try to explain it. I don’t think we will replace him at all I posted I was worried when I read one of the lads about to sign operates off the left a lot that it meant Clarke deal was imminent. It seems is spending fees on players this whole summer has been dependent on selling someone to finance it, just so happens we’ve sold the biggest jewel in the squad for a shitty fee to do so. No pressure on the new lads then just the what 20 goal/assist to replace when they’ve not played in English football. It’s a massive gamble and could have cut the legs out from our season before the first international break.
So if we won’t replace him the fee is irrelevant really. Issue as you see it is the player going

But we all knew about that bid last night, that it was 15m up front (which it's not because Spurs get a hefty wedge). So it couldn't have been that tempting if they took a full day to consider it, let Clarke prepare for the weekend, work with Dodds on improving his game and then only accept it with 40 hours or so until our next game.

Something happened, clearly. Although it isn't necessarily negative, maybe their ideal replacement is available and they had to act quick, for example (probably not like).

Sunderland fans ramming more shite down their throat and asking for more.

Not a clue mate. As a supporter I try to give the benefit of the doubt and push back on the snidey trolls who are constantly negative but I’m running out of leeway I can give them with shit like this.

We have a few players who should get a larger chance - plus I think Isodor(if we get that over the line). Simic looks good too, but appears to be a true striker at 6'3". If we get those two in, it's not a terrible window.
And in a net spend profit which is the most important part before anything else like winning games.

I think the bid is 20mil plus add ons which is why it has been accepted

We had Speakman saying just a few weeks ago that the club is so well ran and are safely within the financial rules, that we didnt need to sell to buy.

Yet, here we are, selling off our best player for what looks to be peanuts, to fund a striker or two who may not even reach the kind of numbers Clarke was achieving on the wing.

Saying things and then doing the complete opposite isn't a good look, but its to be expected from the clubs board.

Am I right in thinking that if he has signed for Ipswich then he has gone through a medical today even though he was training this morning?
It's been double quick.

We got half of what Bristol City got for Alex Scott, I don't even the get the 'only two years left' stuff either, as he'd still be worth 10m+ in a year if we were in the Champ (and even more if we went up because we kept him).

His medical is tomorrow.
