If we sell Clarke for £25m it’ll confirm a lot of people’s fears about the real ambitions of this ownership.

Leeds have just got £40m for Rutter. Who averaged about a goal in every ten games for them.

A succession plan and safc plan is to bring through players to sell.
Then replace them with similar quality or better.

Clarke last game of the season div 1 was nowhere near the player he is today.
However if we repeat going back to waiting for players to develop you don’t evolve as a club. At some point you have to break your model and invest and spend.

Clarkes value to us with some additions is way more though. Doesn’t really matter which way you spin it. We don’t have to sell 27M up front and rising with add ons or you aren’t getting him should be the stance. He’ll be worth 15-20 next season with one year if so don’t go up. Chance you take.

and what do you mean by upfront? Do you think they paid an £8mn lump sum? Cos that would be stupid for them to do and stupid for SAFC to do..

Me I’m using the word guaranteed because £2m of the Stewart fee was guaranteed additional to £8m. I think articles did similar at the time. £2m more is performance related.

you are absolutely right..clarke is worth more to sunderland than he is to any premier league club..thats why premier league clubs are making such low bids..

If we sell Clarke he will be the second player we have “cashed in on” in four years of this model, and the other one is held together with sellotape.

They were very clear this is the model and sales may happen at some point, amazing that some are using it as a gotcha.

Not using it as a gotcha at all. I've said consistently I've got no problem with the strategy or 'model'. I've defended the club loads on here and there's plenty of good stuff going on there but there can also be criticism. My issue is with what is the plan exactly?

Last year we sold stewart and brought in half or dozen or more cheap shite with the money. They didn't improve us one jot and that was the only money we spent.

Fast forward to this summer and we've made no progress whatsoever on signing a striker until it looks like we are in talks to sell Clarke and for less than 99% on here wanted to sell for yesterday.

No issue with selling players and getting maximum value, but are we unable to sign any players who might happen to command a fee unless a big one leaves?
