Jack Burnham: The Resurrection

during a t20 match I had the pleasure of sitting close to his mother and the various hangers on. They badgered him all game, in between pints. she was full of hell and accusing people of stealing her drink, whilst she was off to the toilet. They were wearing nufc tops as well, so you can imagine the patter from them.

imo the lad, hopefully he will let that entourage go and knuckle down, to make the best of his ability. I want him to succeed

Averaged 27 in the Championship last year with a top score of 86 (which should’ve been a hundred).

This year is a write off unfortunately.

If we hadn’t had the pandemic I’d have been of the opinion that he had to have a big year this year to justify his existence. I’ve no doubt he’s a talent, but unfortunately I think he’s running out of time.

That said, whatever happens this year wouldn't be a fair judgement in my view of whether he’s worth keeping or letting go.

I’m not sure what his contract status is, but I’d hope he’d be given 2021 to earn his future.

Searching through posts suggests he was given 2 years after last season

Played well for Eng 19s however not seen anything to suggest he’s capable of being a decent performer. It’s the perfect time for him to shine given how weak the batting is this season. Let’s hope he delivers

Could be debated that Ross Greenwell was a better option.Made his FC debut v Uni at start of 2019 season. No further first games then starts Uni degree and apprenticeship at County Council.Hundred for Burnmoor last weekend.

Said he would play for England when he was younger just doesn’t seem to have developed didn’t have a good year out spoke to him during that time he seemed positive about taking his second chance but really needs to kick on now

Top scorer in the current match ;)

Seems to be heading the way of Gough and Peng unfortunately.

The gentleman said he hadn’t seen ANYTHING to suggest he’s capable of being a decent performer.

I gave two examples of pretty decent performances from JB.

So he has IMO shown capability.
It's like a shit striker can still have a good game in football it's pointless having the odd performance

Out of all the outstanding local teenage batsmen that have come through the academy as it stands only one has made it as purely just a batsmen to what you would class as a quality county batsmen and that is Mark Stoneman. Even when you look at his career he was very close to getting released.
Yes there are others such as Stokes Borthwick Mustard and Collingwood but they all played as all rounders so had that little bit of breathing space when the runs dried up.
I reckon it must be one of the hardest apprenticeships on the county circuit to make it as a specialist batsmen playing at the Riverside.
As far as Burnham goes I don't know him like others on here but at 16/17 I thought he looked outstanding not just as a batsmen but as an all rounder. I know he has had the back stress fractures but once he basically stopped bowling at Durham his chances slimmed of making the grade.
I really do hope he can make it because he plays certain shots that only good player s can execute. But with the likes of Peng and Daley once that confidence and self belief begins to go it's tough to make it.

I'm having a different opinion that's the point of a forum

It is, but you’re arguing against a point that I’m not actually making.

Gordon Muchall.
