Is international footy crap or am I getting old?

There’s basically football on everyday these days, back in the day international tournaments were they only time you’d get loads of football on Tv at once
Just like the News, i understand the feeling, but i don't know what it is, i still look forward to the euros and the world cup, i admit i will be watching less games this time around, but all of England's as normal, but it's true there is too much football these days.

I’ll be watching as many games as I can in this tournament, but I not arsed about staying up through the night to watch it, i think could have a knockout game kicking off at 1am

Scotland's first game is 2am in the morning, i guess those north of Hadrian's wall, will be playing there bag pipes until well into the early hours.

Love following England but the sheer greed of FIFA and UEFA extending tournaments has diluted the quality so much with very minimal effort needed for bigger teams to qualify.

Was so much better when you had two of the bigger teams in a group meaning even the games against lesser teams mattered. Sadly gone are the days of England battering Germany 5-1 or atmospheres like Turkey at the SoL

Least the Nations League in the autumn has some decent games for England

Too many games has killed it. A world cup should be the elite teams. Similar with the Euros. Any competition where 3rd place teams are going through in a group of 4 will kill it due to a lack of jeopardy

There are more games in the group stage of this World Cup than there were in the whole of the last World Cup. Going to take a few weeks for people to buy into it, everything beforehand is just a token effort so the big wigs can cash in

It's just a sign of the times.

I think what's annoying to us oldies is all the neverending sideshow that comes with the modern stars, social media etc.

I've no doubt the stars of yesteryear would have been the same given the opportunity.

How many team's, in the groups for you ?. i agree there are far to many teams in this world cup, but the last euros wasn't too bad, what's doing my head in is this round of 32 they have brought into this world cup,

think its wall to wall telly, in 70s and 80s looked forward to seeing the star players eg Maradona, Cruyff, Pele, Rossi etc as was only chance to see them . Now can see them every weekend and when Cl on during the week too.
There's not really any surprises anymore.
I do think this is a real change. There’s less mystery about foreign players and teams than there used to be

I think you have to make it 32 for the Euros or keep it at 16, I don't think there's much jeopardy in the games throughout the group stage when 4/6 teams in third spot qualify for the next round.

World Cup similar in that it should be 64 or 32 to avoid dead games. 64 obviously far too many but still preferable to the current iteration for me. It feels like the group stages are just a formality now until the actual knockout round which is where the tournament begins in reality

Fair, i guess we will find out in, 10 days time, when it begins. if these group stages are a formality.

The individuals in the game aren't allowed release to do what they do as they had in earlier times, it's more of a squad game based on fitness now. Teams just cancel each other out so it becomes a pass the ball around among yourselves possession based unwatchable pile of sh*te.

As I've posted frequently the game as I loved it has gone.

England have bored the shite out of people for years i think its put many people off international footy. Yes they'd done well to get so far in the last couple of tournaments but they havent excatly been great entertainment along the way to go with all hype that comes with every WC or euros.
Think the best years footballing style wise was Euro 96

Absolute pleasure

The strength and TV coverage of both the Premier League and Champions League has diluted massively the uniqueness of the world cup (and Euro's). When I was younger it was your only real chance to watch world class players in action and I remember as kid looking forward to the Brazil games etc... now they nearly all play in Europe and many in Premier League... we see them all week in week out!!
