Is cricket getting too close to football?

Saw this TikTok

And it made me think. Are cricket fans and is the general atmosphere in cricket grounds changing?
Also the booing is new isn’t it?

Far better that than the Lords library atmosphere that provides zero home advantage.
Yeah there’s that but
People jump on the cricket bandwagon for big events, much like the bellends come crawling out of the woodwork at Christmas when the Darts is on at Ally Pally.
It’s good that more people are supporting the sport but I get the feeling there’s an ever growing population of fans who only support England to “stick it to the Aussies” if that makes sense?

The booing is getting talked about so much - it’s crazy. I think I could do my job no differently if 20,000 people boo’d me walking in and out the house

No, it isn’t new either.

Football related chanting at cricket was going on as far back as I can remember (early 90’s) and regarding booing, the Aussie crowds from that time were massively hostile. In England alone, when the Ian Bell ‘non-dismissal’ occurred v India in 2011 the atmosphere was feral. As it was when Mohammed Amir played his first game after his ban for spot fixing. I’m sure others will have other examples but there’s your starter(s) for ten ;).

Headingley has always been an absolute bear pit and probably Edgbaston as well, certainly in recent times. Just seems to be getting loads of attention now on the dreaded social media. I don't mind it at all as long as it doesn't go too far and turn violent. As one poster says above, if it can help shake the stereotype the uninitiated have of the game, all the better

Despite that, the majority of reports alluded to the atmosphere being more pantomime hostility than viscous. The Final Word lads (Geoff Lemon and Adam Collins, both Aussies) were highly complimentary of it.

It was great where we were. Smith doing orchestra conductor actions when the crowd were chanting at him. Labuchagne running over and booing the crowd when he was sent to the Western Terrace boundary. Broad and Root trying to get the crowd going at key times. Gives it a bit of theatre.

Obviously the booing is all pantomime stuff but I must say I've never known it as prevalent as it is now. Maybe there's more reason to boo the ozzies than ever before though :D
