Is Boro a derby?

It is a Derby. We just think it’s fun to pretend it’s not in the hope it will annoy their fans.

However, our main derby is the Mags. It just feels different when we play the mags. When we are in the same division it’s the first 2 games most fans look for when the fixtures come out.

Our decline in status has meant we have waited some time to experience the unique atmosphere this game creates. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too much longer.

Not me. Mags only as a derby, win or lose against them it's the height of emotion. Boro fans seem to get very excited about this one, not quite just another game for me though almost is.
May be a geographical thing, lots of mags where I am but other than the game itself I never see a smoggy from one season to the next.

I’m stuck watching Saturday mornings with a Boro and Arsenal supporters… so it’s a derby here.

Over there though? I leave to y’all to decide.

The way mackems have embraced Mowbray, Clough, Cattermole etc we should all just sit alongside eachother, like Liverpool ad Everton used to do. Smog suits and seagull masks side by side.

When I was born Boro was in North Yorkshire officially. I personally do think it's a Derby game. 30 miles away. I actually don't mind Boro. The Geordies I don't like. However to me it's a Derby. So is Hartlepool and Darlo if we played them
What's the thoughts?
its a derby to the mutants not us

As an "outsider", I'd consider it to be a derby tbf.
It's interesting to get an "outsiders" perspective.

Newcastle/Sunderland is regarded as the big North-East derby, and Villa/Birmingham is the big Midlands derby, but is it still regarded as a derby game when WBA play Villa for example, or is at least considered a rivalry?

I think I'm right in saying that WBA fans regard Wolves as their main rivals?

It's a strange situation re: Albion rivalries. I'm not sure if you know the rough georaphy of Brum/Black Country.

The Hawthorns is right on the border of Brum (literally yards outside the city boundary) and just approx 3 miles from Villa Park, 6miles from Blues but 12 miles from Molineux, so Villa SHOULD be our rivals, but then you have the geography of support, most of which for Albion & Wolves is based in the Black Country.. Smethwick, West Brom, Dudley, Tipton, Cradley, Wednesbury etc so for the majority Wolves is THE Derby.

Me and my mates live in Smethwick, close to (but NOT in) Birmingham, so growing up in the 70s it was always VIlla as our main rivals and for me still is.

It's a bit confusing.. probably best to hate all of them to be safe. ;)

Interesting. I'd say the majority of Boro fans have always regarded Sunderland and Newcastle as being our North-East rivals, particularly those who live on Teesside or in the surrounding towns and villages.

Those who live in Whitby for example would probably feel Boro vs Leeds is a bigger game.

26 pages on here. I presume most people say it's a Derby even if they say it isn't.
Why no threads saying is Sunderland v Leeds a Derby?

On a similar note I wonder if Leeds consider Boro a derby or “ a big game “for them as much as you say some of your support do ?Be interesting

Again I think it would depend on where you live.

Apparently Leeds fans living in Whitby and surrounding towns and villages do regard Boro vs Leeds as a big game.

Those in Leeds itself maybe not so ?
Probably not. Always a bit of added spice whenever we play Leeds but I've never heard Leeds fans sing "We hate Boro" or paedo songs.

Personally I'm not bothered about Leeds myself and have never considered them a rival, although it's always nice to beat them.

As I've said, I think a lot of it depends on where you live.
