Is Boro a derby?

If I could pick 3 teams to get promoted to the premier league it would be us, Middlesbrough and Hull tbh.

This isn’t a derby. Most Sunderland fans I know don’t mind boro and actually wouldn’t mind them doing well as another northern club.

If they went into financial difficulties like darlo had before I’m sure we would help in loaning players to them same as we did for darlo. Certainly not a derby.

If Newcastle were on the verge of going under, I’d hope we would put the boot in rather than help whatsoever in all honesty. Now that’s a derby
We’d loan them Clarke most likely

canny comparison tho i never knew Newport had a transporter bridge
Yeah I THINK they're the only two working examples of transporters in the country - not sure on that though.

Actually saw it for the first time a couple of months ago - went past Newport on the M4 and saw it from the Motorway

I reckon Guisborough is where proper North Yorkshire starts, anything north of GUIs/Roseberry Topping is North East, not sure that’s factual because they’re Redcar & Cleveland but around that area they’re all wholly backs.

Middlesbrough is further North than Darlington.

Middlesbrough isn’t anything to do with Yorkshire other than whatever ceremonial purposes means, if you drive A19 south towards Thirsk you’ll pass a North Yorkshire sign.

We share news/radio/bus routes etc with yourselves, sounds daft but North East football awards always between 3 big clubs, Yorkshire have their own, everything about our town points North, where maybe well before my time it was culturally Yorkshire. If you asked 100 people in Boro (under 40) where they’re from they’d say Teesside or North East with the odd one or two saying Cleveland which stopped in 96.

When we go on Holiday constantly get mistaken for a Geordie or Mackem despite clear differences.

Had any nervous poos yet mate?

Obvs not as big as when we play them up the road but it’s always been a derby to me. Always known Boro fans throughout my life and it’s only half an hour away. That said, I’d put Darlo and Hartlepool and the like up there, too. They’re all local derbies for me.

Nope would much rather beat Leeds even though I worked in Boro for a while and have a few Boro supporting mates.

Beating or losing to them is no different to any other game as opposed to losing to the scum!

It’s not a derby for us.
It is a derby for them.

The feeling isn’t there for us to regard it as a derby. Location might be but the emotion doesn’t even register.

But in the modern world of superlatives and extremes social media shouty louds want it to be a derby.

Also there is a lot of Boro supporters who would much rather beat Leeds…just saying.

I would say the opposite. Always was a derby (not the big one) but social media and shouty lads wanting to appear big and important and above it all hyperventilate to say it's not.

When I was born Boro was in North Yorkshire officially. I personally do think it's a Derby game. 30 miles away. I actually don't mind Boro. The Geordies I don't like. However to me it's a Derby. So is Hartlepool and Darlo if we played them
What's the thoughts?
I personally think you’re a fart sniffer and a wind up merchant. This same shite thread gets wheeled out every game!

There’s the usual criteria of history, distance etc that get trotted out and then there’s simply asking yourself if you get more excited and nervous in the run up to the game than other weeks. We had THE Derby recently and there is absolutely no comparison. Personally I don’t get any more excited about Boro than any other game

No. End of thread 🤣. Or should be. Why does this question keep coming up. We have one derby. Frankly I couldn’t care less about the boro.

if it was the proper derby i'd be quite nervous and doing anything to take my mind off it till kick off. got up this morning, done the ironing and settled down to watch the cricket. it's hardly's crossed my mind till the mrs has just got up and asked what time we're setting off.

as an aside, i spend half my working life on the a66 going to teesport docks and for the last couple of years there's been a matrix sign up warning of congestion when they're at home for about a week beforehand. there's been no mention of today on it all week so perhaps even their council/whoever it is that's in charge of it don't see it as a derby.

See their crowd was down to 24000 today
Similar to their Hull game
Boos all over the place -Slaven saying booing this and booing that -Carrick getting a pasting
