Is Boro a derby?

"The term 'Derby' or local derby originated from a game of football between all saints and St Peter's in the city of Derby. Due to the close proximity of the two churches and hence the football played, this is where the term 'local derby' or “derby” comes from."

IMHO you cant have 2 local derbies. You can only have one. and as SAFC's local derby is with Newcastle then there aren't anymore local derbies for us - so no - Middlesbroughs local derby is with Darlington/Hartlepool or in this division - Leeds.

My definition might get a bit tricky when you get to say London but I'm sure if you asked WHU fans, say, they would tell you who they class as their biggest rivals and hence local derby.....Millwall?
 
Always been a derby to me, that said I worked down Stockton way for a couple of years back in footy boom when Reidy took over and Boro had Robbo and started signing some stars. Good times, canny rivalry and banter tbh. Still prefer Boro to them lot and Boro are the only side up here to win owt in my lifetime. That doesn't stop the Mags acting like they are Man U or Liverpool though.
 
When we play Newcastle there's a big build up during the week. The whole day of the game I'm a bag of nerves. Beating them is the best feeling in the world and losing to them really hurts.

I don't feel like that at all when we play Boro, not a knock at them but they're just like playing any other team for me. I wonder if Boro fans get really nervous in the build up when they play us though.

Thought it was a game that attracted a crowd of similar size to the Derby at Epsom
 
I would definitely say it's a derby game if it pleases them. Let's get the derbies against Plymouth and Portsmouth out of the way first though.

Exactly this.

Playing then up the road the whole week is an event.

I don't even mind middlesbrough. Fans shay's seen decent apart from the ones who decided to pelt us with burger van condiments last year

Speaking for myself - no.
Having said that I don't really get nervous over anyone we play - except for end of season stuff (or cup finals) when summats riding on it.
