Ireland v England - Sept 2025

T20 is a dying format?

Please show your workings.

He's talking shite as per usual. Reckons only Ireland fans can buy tickets. Website says 'Sold Out' completely for Friday and Sunday.
assuming its at this time rather than a 6.30 start due to lack of floodlights? otherwise a strange time to play

Ireland are going to build a permanent facility in the west of Dublin. It's along the lines of the Rose Bowl with a few rows of permanent seats and the ability to put temporary seats behind when required. Floodlights are also to be installed. When they hold them at club grounds the cost of renting the ground, hiring the seats and setting up temporary hospitality facilities scuppers a big pay day, especially if weather knackers the day.

I'm not sure what their refund policy is for no play but if you have to apply for reimbursement I'll just skip it and let them keep the £30. Their need probably greater than mine.

Annoyed that this is on TNT as I only have Sky Sports which reminds me that I need to work out what my plan is for the Ashes. Don't feel like paying for a full subscription when I will only be able to watch an hour or two per day.
I gave out my login details to my FIL and pal. As the Discovery+ app lets two devices watch live at one time.

Find a kind family member or pal not bothered in the Ashes would be my advice.

As much as I’d prefer Sky commentary team. When BT sport had the last few and now TNT have this one. They both have the brilliant feature of letting you watch sporting events as live. So you dont have to stay up all night and can watch every minute of the Ashes at your leisure or other sporting events. Whereas Sky stuck in the dark ages/greedy bastards wanting you to have a recordable TV subscription to do that.

Thankfully I pay nowt for Sky or TNT and get legally. Have me IPTV too which shows Sky better than Sky go does!

Watching Surrey v notts in the lunch break their CEO was interviewed. He told us the figures of how bad T20 is now. 25% less crowds over the last 3 seasons and something needs doing as the money we used to make isn't there nowadays from it. We are working hard to try get back the crowds.

There is on TV live from the CEO. Many counties are losing money from the T20 now. Only 1 county still have the same crowds these days that is Somerset. Every county is the same with falling crowds otherwise.

Watch listen about cricket and you get the facts.

Make things up in your head that is not a dying format of the game if you want.

But it's out their for you to see and listen to.

Heard the same interviews over the last 2 months from 3 other county CEOs on TV.

Ok end of.

Crowds being down doesn't make it a dying format. Which of these formats do you think the ECB will drop first?

T20 Blast
One Day Cup

He was then asked why do you think this is. His reply after we did a survey from our members last season we found out the format was boring and getting stale nowadays. Games lasting much longer and not the 2 and half hours anymore. And close games don't happen.

Warwickshire CEO a few weeks ago on TV during a teatime interview our T20 average gates are down from 11000 around 5000 in the last 3 seasons.

This is why the 100 was introduced instead of a T20 franchise competition as we just find people are bored with T20 nowadays.

How much more????

Essex CEO etc etc Derbyshire was the most shocking one attendance wise.

There all on live TV to see and listen to.

Have you told the Irish CB it's a dying format? Two sold out games out of three.

Any links to this interview?

I'd rather hear his words than you paraphrasing. As I wouldn't be surprised that you are mis-representing what he said.

If he said what he said there would be some online footprint. I can't find anything.
How come other countries domestic leagues are still selling out in the "dying format" and no one else has bothered with the ECB's weird new game?
The issues for falling attedances in T20 in this country

Will be down to fact it's counties cash cow and so have whacked prices up. While people don't have the same spending power they had pre covid.

Not really some wider issue with the format itself. Another mental take from a person we all just need to ignore.

I just have to challenge them to prove the words they are saying when I don't believe a word of what they say.

Links BBC radio London that had the live coverage of the game very simple.

Yoitube interview from Warwickshire CEO is from a live game during a lunch break.

Very easy to find.

Leicestershire one is from the county game v Derbyshire during a tea interview.

How can in paraphrase the Surrey CEO saying we will be working hard this winter to address the falling attendances and lack of interest in T20 to hopefully get the crowds back so we're not losing money.

Sonny Baker has now bowled 11 overs in international cricket to return figures of 0-128. What a player.
Who would have thought someone picked off the back of a few games in a Mickey Mouse tournament would turn out to be shite when it comes to the real stuff.

Would you care to justify why you come on what is fundamentally a Durham Cricket forum to post wholly negativity propaganda regarding both CC, T20 and 1 day cricket. It's clear from responses that posters are not interested in what you offer.
It's no surprise that domestic T20 attendances are in decline and equally clear how the decline can be altered.
