India v England series

No reason we can’t have both Buttler and foakes in. Especially with such a fragile top order. I think Pope is good enough to bat higher, so him at 3, Crawley and sibley opening and Lawrence and Burns missing out for me. If we’re gonna invest time in someone at the top, it might as well be in the two youngest ones with the most potential for future development, rather than Burns who’s much older and less likely to improve. Also think Jos could play 3 as he’s very clever and able to adapt very well, but he’d have to work at it and we’d have to accept some failures at the start.
Not sure about Buttler at 3 mind. I like Pope batting where he is for now while he's learning but I suppose he could move up one as long as they leave him there for a good run of games afterwards.

Foakes looking assured in his batting and wicket keeping was excellent
Should be a permanent fixture in this England team and would enable England to bring back either bairstow or butler as a specialist batsman or maybe both of them

I know it’s gone a bit far but I much prefer this pitch to the 2016 one when 750/6 was scored on it.

Yes it was a big toss to lose but we have contributed to the situation by ‘resting’ our best bowler and chucking down some mediocre spin yesterday.

This situation is no different to a green top in England where Jimmy blasts them out for 150.

Foakes has shown what we all already knew that he is by far and away the best gloveman in the country!

That doesn’t change the fact I would still pick Buttler every time over him.
Fair enough mate. I was the same until watching Foakes in this test tbf. If Foakes bats well they will probably find a place for both.

no no no!

we've just turned the corner and got top of the test rankings, 6 test wins in a row with a settle top 6 and buttler at 7

and now people want to start fannying around by putting people out of position

Buttler is by far our number 1, his performances have earnt it

Foakes brillaitn back up

simple as that really

utter nonsense, again, we dont prepare green tops!!!!

how can someone who watches this much cricket not get this basic point

the ball moves in England because of the weather ffs

jesus wept man

He is good keepter like, But Buttler has kept brilliantly, not missed a chance, literally faultless

sorry like but Buttler been fantastic the last year, I must have been watching different games or someit
I think with the weight of cricket Foakes will get more opportunities. Up to him to keep performing well and make it an argument.

And Buttler’s under massive pressure to win games against Pakistan when out of it and coolness to win the game win under pressure in Sri Lanka is what makes him a first choice.
What’s that got to do with his keeping? I never suggested dropping Buttler the batsman. I said we should give foakes the gloves and also play Jos. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. I think Jos is in the top 6 batsmen we have now at test level. I also know he isn’t the best wicketkeeper we have. Very logical solution here is to play both.

I’m not sure it did. We wouldn’t have made many on day 1 either. We’re facing the best spinner in the world on a bunsen

we’d have been batting on a day four pitch rather than a day five third session pitch. I doubt we’d have made 320, but maybe 220-250 and that’d have been a very competitive score. I think whoever won the toss here, won the game. The Indians knew that and took the risk on the toss.

It a bit of a yes and no from me on that one as I agree nowt worse and more boring than subcontinent wickets were 600 scored at a slow rate.

However problem with this wicket mate, is I strongly believe irrespective of side picked this match was lost as soon as we lost the toss before a ball was even bowled.

That can’t be right either, there has to be a balance somewhere in between.
