There is a hideous misconception in the cricket clique that "bresnan can do whatever Onions can do + bat well". Which is franky bollox, how is Bresnan a strike bowler? Onions is.

Heard a few come out with that crap lately (vaughan, nasser etc).

It's a load of shite. The real question is why are we relying on our number 8 to make runs? You win Test matches by taking wickets and Onions is a far superior bowler to Bresnan.

Playing for England seems to be about having the right name, face and family.

It's entirely relevant-if he's been picked consistently in the squad he surely deserves to play on occasion and the most appropriate time to play him is on his own ground where he'll be the most knowledgeable about how to exploit the conditions.
 
They'll probably play him at The Oval if the series is won and it'll be an absolute featherbed.

The selectors are f***ing morons. Bresnan is shite, Broad isn't much better. For too long we've got away with Anderson and Swann firing.

Anyway, fuck them. Durham > England.

To be fair, at the end of the Old Trafford test both Vaughan and Boycott said Onions should play ahead of Bresnan.
 
I'd have given Onions a chance ahead of Bresnan (they'll never drop Broad). He knows the wicket well and would get the best out of it.
