I'm backing Poyet.

He can't get carried away by the lure of Wembley. He's trying to build something here, and a huge part of that relies on us being in the top flight..

Another 5 year plan huh?

hopefully this time we will build, I think he could be a great manager.
But we cannot afford to throw opportunities like we had, Been following the lads for over 30 years to know these chances are few and far between.
Even if we achieve the type of solidity Moyes did at Everton, you have to bear in mind what they won under Moyes too.

The chances for clubs outside the rich kids to win a trophy pop up every now and again, when they come you have to grab them not discard as an annoyance.
Stability and improvement do not guarantee silverware, they just guarantee less relegation fights.

We can't prioritise everything. He was right to rest key players yesterday, the FA Cup right now is a luxury we cannot afford.

It's too early in Poyet's tenure to chase silverware, but the fact that we're even talking about it - this season of all seasons - should give those laying into him pause for reflection.

We've had the best cup runs in decades. If you let cups be the reason you turn on Poyet, you need to have a word with yourself.

Here's to the real battle.

Fuck off.

You can't accuse us if discarding the cups as annoyance.

We're just running out of runway.

Not playing your strongest team in a FA cup quarter final is discarding the cup.
We are not Chelsea with a Champions league game two or three days later!
I believe the Saints fans felt the same about their exit against us, we only won that cos he made the same error.

Still backing him though.

It's prioritising the league over the cup, certainly, but I think people are overstating just how weakened the team was.

Saints probably had a bigger grievance as they're pretty much safe so could afford to have a proper go at the FA Cup. Not only are we right in the shit, we're also playing catch up after a cup final.

So effectively discarding it then, or should we assume players not considered good enough for a team in the relegation zone should piss all over a team above us in the league at their place?
Maybe our best team would have lost too, I would have probably put it down to Sunday's cup final.
Certainly would not feel aggrieved as I do now though.

Maybe we'll have an very winnable FA cup QF next year, or maybe I'll be dead before it happens (I'm in my 40's and have only seen three).
You cannot give up these chances and just expect them to come around again soon, next year we could be in the Championship with a squad that makes this one look like Madrid!

Hopefully the future will be bright, but I'll take grabbing every little chance you do get with both hands personally.
Still firmly on the Gus bus here though.

What better way to build than attract a new generation of supporters by getting to an FA Cup semi/final?
He has fckd up simple as-its already causing a split amongst the support. Shows how he has misread the mood of his own support.

I hear you, but equally I'm far more confident about stopping up now than I would be if we had a Semi right in the middle of the next run of fixtures, and a final drawing attention away from our crucial last home game of the season.

I'd defo take a cup - either cup - over survival, but I wouldn't take 2 cup defeats over it.

Jesus wept-The only thing mutually exclusive to both competitions is we would have bounced into the palace game on the back of a win. Now we are shuffling into it with everyone on a downer and some kickin off bigtime.

Which game would you prioritise - the Semi, or Everton at home?

You can't prioritise both.

Fuck off.
All I ever see you do it tell people to fuck off.

You should mix it up a bit with a few bugger and piss offs, just for variety (as it's the spice of life and all that).

Cue me being told to fuck off, but I couldn't give a monkey's...

How about both?

Aye. We should play our best players in every single game and try and win everything with equal intensity.

All clubs should. Squad rotation is completely redundant. Everyone should stop doing it because it's pointless.

Frankly yes, we should. I want to win every game.

so players cant play once a week ? is a week's rest not enough ?, poyet got cocky and it backfired simple as that

I don't think anyone's turning on him and the vast majority think he's the best manager we've had for many a long year. BUT:

Yesterday was a chance for us to turn an exciting season into a once in a lifetime event while building on the Cup Final and getting real momentum for the league games.

When will we ever have the chance again? All the home draws, the way most of the top teams have conspired to get themselves knocked out - I don't expect to have that luck again anytime soon.

So will I be delighted as we head towards mid-table next season? Of course, but this was a chance to put something in the record books that generations to come would still talk about.

Poyet had no choice of course - he is paid to do what he did yesterday. But you can't expect the fans to see it as anything other than an incredible opportunity thrown away.
