He can't get carried away by the lure of Wembley. He's trying to build something here, and a huge part of that relies on us being in the top flight.

We can't prioritise everything. He was right to rest key players yesterday, the FA Cup right now is a luxury we cannot afford.

It's too early in Poyet's tenure to chase silverware, but the fact that we're even talking about it - this season of all seasons - should give those laying into him pause for reflection.

We've had the best cup runs in decades. If you let cups be the reason you turn on Poyet, you need to have a word with yourself.

Here's to the real battle.

Apart from one or two WUM's, who has turned on Poyet then?
I think he has done very, very well but yesterday was f***ing shit.

Yeah. That's not the logic at all.

Competing in the cups stretches our thin resources. Going full tilt for the FA Cup means 3 physically and mentally sapping games that other relegation rivals don't have - that's on top of the League Cup hangover. You're off your rocker if you don't think that'll have an impact on the league.

Being in Europe and the Championship will do fuck all to 'build'. Look at Birmingham.

And what are you talking about when you say "not going for the cup"? That's a bizarre statement to make 8 days after a cup final 1 after a QF.
Winning a cup does not equal relegation. We are allowed to win games in both competitions. Staying up as cup winners and being in Europe would help us build. Our first choice 11 would have had one game a week if they had played yesterday. We would have then had one extra game in the regular season had we won. The positive atmosphere would have been huge around the club. Look at our results around the league cup semis.

Winning yesterday = huge boost to morale - even greater feel good factor after last weekend.
Defeat = low morale, fans pissed off, Poyet calling players weak. Ideal preparation for a difficult game against Palace.

Playing a full strength team v Hull doesn't equal wining a cup either.

There is always a bigger picture than the one we see in front of us and as supporters we tend to see the most narrow of views. Poyet has been good for us, is a good manager and has to cut his cloth accordingly but nothing at all will convince me that he did anything other than get yesterday badly wrong.

Historically across the season we have seen equally inept performances from a variety of teams we have put out, full strength or otherwise so who knows, he could have played his best 11 and we would still be out, the problem is we will never know. To try and fail is ok, last week proved that, to not try at all is unforgivable.

And what's the equation if a full strength Sunderland got beat off Hull and picked up a couple of injuries?

If, if ,if.....what did happen was he picked a shit team and we got f***ing hammered.

So it's OK to speculate that we'd have won the FA Cup and stayed up on a tide of great morale, but not to speculate that we'd have still got beat?[DOUBLEPOST=1394446668][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ok. That makes pissing away a great chance of winning our first trophy in 40 years ok then.

I give up. It's like you're all on the blob.

Don't throw your toys out of the pram.

You clown! You really just put that?

We already chased the league cup!!!!

We should be ahead of Hull, but we're in the middle of an awful season.

I'm not sure if people are grasping just how in the shit we are.

Every Sunderland fan knows we are in the shit. We've all seen it plenty of times before from relegation to the third division, the 19pt season and the 15pt season and that's just mentioning the three worst in my time supporting the club.

There have been a lot more shit times than there have been good times for most fans. So when the chance comes to achieve something you need to take a gamble and go for it. Gus failed to do that.

That's the way football works. We can't go into games thinking what if we play our full strength team lose and pick up injuries. It's incredibly negative!

Of course we can. What do you think a squad is for?

We're not chasing mid table. We've got a league run in where we'll play must win games against teams better than an under strength Hull.
