I'm backing him for different reasons. I don't agree its too early to chase silverware by any stretch of the imagination. Nor do I think that winning a Cup (or as a minimum having a playoff with Sheffield United for European football) should be less of a priority than scraping fourth bottom. I bet Wigan Athletic fans don't either. And I don't accept you have to choose between them anyway - look how we have improved our league results at he same time as going on these two Cup runs.

I just think it's a bit simplistic to blame it all on the team selection yesterday. This is the approach that was taken that got us to the League Cup Final - at least until the semi-final stage - and got us to the Cup Quarter Final.

Our man of the match yesterday was someone who was one of those changes, and all three goals were the fault of two of the first names on the teamsheet. The 6 players who were brought in included three Argentinian internationals, two Italian internationals, and a £14m striker. Yes they played poorly (apart from Ustari) - but was Vergini worse than O'Shea? Was Giaccherini worse than Colback yesterday? Was Scocco worse than Fletcher?

Also, it was 0-0 when Johnson and Borini came on.

At that point our side was

Apart from the abysmal Dossena, it's hardly a weakened side is it? Eight of them played in the Cup Final the week before.

The reality is that we do need to use the squad. Yesterday, pretty much everyone who played had a poor game, whether they are a 'squad player' or a first team regular.

We got beatewn because so many of our players played badly, and two of our most experienced players gave away three terrible goals between them, not the team selection IMO.
 
Fuck Gus. He picked a shit team and we got a shit result. Not saying I want him sacked bit I'm very angry with his choices yesterday. Hull will have an FA cup final, that could have been us. Absolute shit.

Bingo!

Winning would have given us another huge boost (like last weekend) but we've been stuffed off a shite side and now most people are disheartened and Poyet seems unhappy with the players. Should be good for the Palace game then.

He should definitely wait to play them at Palace and Norwich, those "easy" games are much better suited(!) It was a piss weak Hull side and playing them now was the perfect opportunity, to have the likes of Borini and Johnson on for the win come a draw at half time was text book.

Of course it mattered to him, which is why he was going loco on the sideline. You just can't plan for the calamity that was Cattermole.

You're missing the point agian. He's focussing on survival and doesn't want injuries or suspensions. We might not have had a lot of games recently but we've got more than anyone else in the run in. He needs to keep them as fresh as possible for a testing schedule ahead.

Yes, that is the only option to get them fit...Or, we play our strongest team against Palace and Norwich, you know, with Borini and Johnson, players who don't need to gain fitness. There's a strange sense of entitlement on this board when it comes to Hull. Fact is, they're better than us this season. Well organised with some reasonable players.

Scocco was off the pace but never playing him won't help that, and neither will never playing Fletcher. We can't rely on just Borini and Johson to score enough to keep us up, we need our other two with fuck all games left match fit. We have a bad run in, with liverpool Man city etc still to come, we need fit goal scorers asap.

In the league longer. A more established club. Better players on paper. In an ideal world that would be the case. This season it hasn't been which is a disgrace. Sunderland should be beating teams like Hull and not being embarrassed three times.

Hull have had a good season though.

Yeah. That's not the logic at all.

Competing in the cups stretches our thin resources. Going full tilt for the FA Cup means 3 physically and mentally sapping games that other relegation rivals don't have - that's on top of the League Cup hangover. You're off your rocker if you don't think that'll have an impact on the league.

Being in Europe and the Championship will do fuck all to 'build'. Look at Birmingham.

And what are you talking about when you say "not going for the cup"? That's a bizarre statement to make 8 days after a cup final 1 after a QF.

Or look at Wigan who are in the FA Cup semi finals for a second season running, have experienced Europe and are right in the play off hunt in the Championship.

I bet the Wigan fans must be fuming this morning after Uwe Rosler got them past Man City into the Semi Final.

Doesn't Rosler know that Wigan have a huge fixture congestion coming up with 14 league games and potentially play offs too? Perhaps somebody should have told him that being in the Premiership is much more important than the chance of winning another meaningless trophy...
